Tabs, personal tool bar, menu go blank

Windows XP sp3, SM 2.12.1 This has happened twice in the last week or so, with no apparent pattern. All text in the tabs in the browser and email windows go blank (actually, there is a underline or two), along with the personal tool bar, and the windows menu at the top. The favicons are still
