How can I permanently change it to updating with only stable releases.
I'm a newbie, so may need a detailed step by step on how to change.

This has happened twice in the last week or so, with no apparent
pattern. All text in the tabs in the browser and email windows go blank
(actually, there is a underline or two), along with the personal tool
bar, and the windows menu at the top. The favicons are still
SM 2.13 seems happier, with less balkiness running scripts, fewer occasions of
needing to punch 'Reload' to get pages to load. So far, so good.
