Hi, I like our current account configuration and wizard. Of course, it can be improved upon; but, does it mean it should be rewritten? If so, what would/should it look like? If not, does this mean we should WONTFIX this? Or instead of asking 'what' it should look like, how about I ask what your ideal process of how a user creates a new account? Re: Funding and Bug Fixes....
SamuelS wrote: Hello SM Team and participants.. I have an idea about how to get bug fixes done, for those of us who really, really, really want them done ASAP and then some... How about assigning a monetary value to requested fixes and let us as either a group or individuals pay to get them done quickly, of course security fixes are excluded. As mentioned earlier by others, it isn't the 'monetary value' that spurs us to fix bugs; but it's the time required to sit down and do the coding. We're all volunteers with this community project and well all want this project to have every single fix done. Again, it's the time required, which makes it hard when we all have our daytime jobs. I don't speak for the rest of the guys, but I would love to really fix all the bugs (security or otherwise) in SeaMonkey. However, in my case only, I'm not a very good developer and all I can do are the 'simple bugs'. I haven't quite gotten to the stage of what I'd like; but I'm improving with each bug I fix. (sort of). I'm finding that it's hard for me to get into the zone to really do some brilliant coding. I'm doing as much as my brain can handle. I do apologize for sucking so much and not doing a good job at doing the hard bugs; but, like I said, I'm trying to improve at it. But I do get frustrated when I do a hard bug. It's one thing I don't want to do is to get frustrated and give up. Thanks for everyone's patience. Kudos to those who tackle the hard bugs. So that was on the 8/5/14 and still no sign of even a beta. What gives? Yes, it is annoying I know. I'm sorry for the delay. I've been working hard at getting the infrastructure code back up and right now, beta is 'ok' (as in it's building on all platforms, but there are issues pertaining to OSX64 and Windows, specifically during the 'make check' process). I'm now working on comm-release but there's a hiccup that I'm hoping to have fixed today so I can proceed to continue. (Linux64 c-r is building at least. :) ) I know you didn't ask, but c-c and c-a aren't good; but I hope to get them back building. c-c's going to be a bit tougher since so much m-c buildconfig changes have compounded a lot of different bustages. (ok. I'm speculating here, since it's currently busted because of a trivial matter; but behind this trivial bustage, there's probably others.) ;/ As for 'when is the beta/release coming out', I can only say Soon. Then retry the SeaMonkey RSS it does not load - error msg is the same as when I try the Google RSS (FeedsWARNsubscribeToFeed: Aborting RSS subscription. Feed downloads already in progress). I've done some preliminary tests and came up with a few observations: The tests were conducted with the following RSS feeds: [1] http://www.seamonkey-project.org/news-atom [2] http://news.google.com/news?pz=1cf=allned=hkhl=zh-TWoutput=rss [3] http://planet.mozilla.org/atom.xml [4] http://planet.mozilla.org/rss20.xml Test 1: - Subscribe [1] - Subscribe [2] - fails. (does nothing aside for dumping that error to the error console) (Delete Blogs .. account) Test 2: - Subscribe [2] - fails. (Delete Blogs .. account) Test 3: - Subscribe [1] - Subscribe [3] - Subscribe [4] -fails (delete...) Test 4: - Subscribe [4] - fails Test 5: - Subscribe [1] - fails. While my tests aren't scientific enough to jump to conclusions, I feel that the SeaMonkey feed code is not liking RSS v2.0 feeds. The parsing is stuck somewhere. So when it fails, something that's set is stuck at the setting which makes any subsequent tries fail. You'd need to delete the Blog newsFeeds account to get it going again. Unfortunately, I don't have much time to dwell on this too much, but will try to when I get enough cycles. The reason for writing this is that in every release I always see new functions being added, but I think it would be nice to fix previously working (and now broken) functions also. Standard disclaimer: (I'm very bad at PR, so I hope I don't make too much PR faux-pas.) The SeaMonkey project is made up of volunteer developers who volunteer some of their time for SeaMonkey development. We don't have a lot of developers and really would like more to help out, especially in coding. That said, SeaMonkey isn't a standalone project without any 'external' dependencies. It depends on the Gecko engine and the Mailnews code. Recent years have seen a lot of Gecko engine API changes and we're really doing our best to keep up (but right now, it's hard). When the Gecko API changes, SeaMonkey code needs changing. Sometimes it's an easy fix. Other times (most often the case), it requires time to figure out the fix. What's making matters worse is that our infrastructure is also having some difficulty keeping up with the changes in how the code is built. We really do appreciate everyone's patience. There's a lot of bugs (looking at the current bug list is quite overwhelming) and hopefully we can whittle it away one by one. SeaMonkey 2.35
Hi Everyone, As I mentioned on the blog, I have started spinning up the release for SeaMonkey 2.35. ('About time!' someone says.) In the past, I would say on the release bug when the ETA is, but due to the fact that we are doing this semi-automatically (Win32 builds and repacks are manually done), and that there are changes to the infra code, we expect to have some bustages. This means delay; but considering everyone's been waiting for it for months on end, a few days of delay won't make any difference (I hope. :P ). Again, I really want to thank everyone's patience while we play catch up. SeaMonkey 2.35..
Hi, I regret to be the bearer of bad news; but as it stands, the worst case scenario (and likely the actual case) is that 2.35 is not going to be released in July. The new goal is to release it in early August. The past month has been mired in fire-fighting bustages, getting repacks and builds working (as of this writing, trunk is busted) as well as the need to get the backend buildbot code updated to reflect that we no longer depend on CVS. I apologize for the delay and thank everyone for your patience. Edmund ___ support-seamonkey mailing list support-seamonkey@lists.mozilla.org https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/support-seamonkey

Hi, Out of curiosity (despite being a little late), is anyone using 2.38b1 and if so, did you get an update for 2.39b1? I just downloaded 2.38b1 and installed it on a separate system. The basic issue is that around 2.38b1 (iirc), we had changed certs, so anything < 2.38b1 won't be able to upgrade to the latest version and will require a full download and install. So while 2.38 -> 2.39 works, 2.x -> 2.38+ (where x <38) won't update. 2.39 and system hanging
Hi, Is it just me, or does 2.39 hang a lot? Especially with getting email? After clicking get messages, it'd download the stuff, and then hang for about ten seconds or so and then resume (after switching windows on me). Like say I am in the 3-pane message window. I click on "Get Msgs". It'd download the mail. Then hang. Once it resumes, it jumps to some other browser window. Mind you, this is with an old profile. Guess I'll try it with a new one. I do apologize for the lack of updates; but, as it is, we're really down in the resource department (particularly time and people). I am, as I've posted, getting trunk and (hopefully) aurora nightlies done consistently. Then I'm doing the l10n repacks (nightly). Once that can be consistently done, I'm going to do the release when I have the necessary information. SeaMonkey 2.40 released
Greetings, After so long a delay, for which we apologize, the SeaMonkey Project is pleased to announce the release of SeaMonkey 2.40! So please check out [1] or [2]. Please note that the website information, while updated for 2.40, still requires a bit more work. We cannot repeat this enough. Thank you everyone for your patience with us. This very long delay due to infrastructure and resource issues has been very trying on a lot of people. It has been a very tough release. I think it's the toughest one I've done. However, this isn't to say that I did this alone. Kudos go to a lot of people, particularly the guys/gals in Mozilla's IT and RelEng dept. I particularly want to thank Nick Thomas for his sheer brilliant idea that helped me unhork the partial mar upload script as well as pointing out the necessary changes to migrate off FTP to S3. Thanks to Jens Hatlak for taking the time to do the Website patch. (Really, sorry for the delay.) Also, thanks to Justin Wood for giving me this opportunity to work out the problems myself. If you all take a look at bug 1233615, I think I rivaled the mess I did with the GTK bug (conveniently forgotten the # :P ). The repo changes I made... oh boy. Only time will heal the mess^H^H^H^H wounds. ;P Anyway, most of all, thanks to all the users out there for hanging on to this project. The words of encouragement (especially during the broken-hand period) definitely gave me a boost of energy. Oh. Before I forget and in the light of being transparent, there is a chance I might have goofed something up, especially during the 2.39 Win32 builds as well as the 2.40 builds and also the partial mar and complete mar updates. I hope I didn't screw things up too much, if at all (here's hoping). Please do post here on your findings. Anyway, thanks again. Well, I honestly hope it won't involve this much work; but due to a plethora of reasons (infra is sub-optimal, haven't released in a while, code changes required to build..etc), it is difficult to know; and changes are coming in faster than we can handle so it's only when we do a release do we find problems. Hopefully, once 2.46 is out the door, we can do a post-mortem and figure out what we need to change in the infra code to not give us problems. Thanks for your patience. Hi, There will be betas.. just need the following to happen: 1) 2.46 is released 2) figure out if the next release is a beta (2.48) or release (2.47). 3) do a post-mortem discussion as to what the smeg went wrong with 2.46 and why hell broke loose and if it's the guy who did the release... he should be sacked! oh wait.. that's me. *sheepish look* ermm.. umm.. Move along.. nothing to see here. :P Seriously, we'll need to do #3 and perhaps we'll need to repeat the same patches to 2.47 or 2.48. I dunno as right now, I'm still fighting 2.46... re: 2.46
Hi All, (this is a personal note, so any flak should be directed to me only and no one else). While this is in the soon-to-be-released release notes, I felt it's prudent that I post this here. SeaMonkey 2.46 took it's not-so-sweet time in being released due to a plethora of issues (I am so damn glad at least others are more on the ball than I am -- namely frg whose more clear-headed than I am). That said, there is one major issue. SeaMonkey 2.40 will be the *last* version that supports non-CPU SSE enabled systems. 2.44 (or maybe 2.43) *was* supposed to be the version that gave users the 'your system will no longer be supported due to it not having a SSE-enabled CPU' message (or something like that). Unfortunately, 2.44 was skipped (as was 2.43 and 2.45) and so this will come to users as a surprise (especially those installing the full installer). Since I have no knowledge (we lost this metric awhile ago) of how many users we really have, I don't know how many are affected by this and I suspect we won't know unless someone speaks out here or anywhere. If you are affected, please use 2.40. My humblest apologies for suddenly springing this version on the user base without mentioning it anywhere beforehand (the bug that dealt with this change slipped off my radar). win64 contributed builds.
Hi Everyone, Just wanna mention that I've generated the very first set of Win64 builds. I've set up a schedule to generate both 32 and 64 bit nightlies. But while it's building 2.53, Win64 isn't officially 'contributed' until (tentatively) 2.54 (which gives us some time to figure the quirks of Win64 building). Please do check it out. At this moment, I would just download the ZIP file (as opposed to the Installer... unless you're running it on a spare computer.) http://archive.mozilla.org/pub/seamonkey/nightly/latest-comm-central-trunk/seamonkey-2.53a1.en-US.win64.zip Edmund PS: Not entirely sure if I generated it right even if the about:support shows Win64.
