I have no add ons, just the plain vanilla SeaMonkey and I am using the
latest MacOS. I rarely have web pages lock up on me, have the browser
crash. I may have the odd unresponsive script or a form button fail to
respond, but for 95% of my browsing SeaMonkey just works (though on some
of the more complex sites the browser does slow down).

I suspect those SeaMonkey users having crashes it is the addons not
SeaMonkey that is causing the issues.

I use Autoplay Off to stop FoxNews "Movies" from starting when I am
perusing the "News" - lol.

DoctorBill
For me there is a better solution to turning off autoplay than through a
plugin for turning off autoplay, and it is built in to SeaMonkey:

First go to the Location Bar of the browser window and type
"about:config" without the quotation marks. Then press return. In the
page that comes up search for "media.autoplay.enabled" and set it to
false. This will turn off autoplay.

I have used this setting for years. When I want to view video on a web
page or at youtube I simply click on the video's play button.

This setting stops videos from autoplaying and lets the user decide if
they want to view a video by clicking the play button. If this is the
function of the plugin you are using, this function is already built
into SeaMonkey by going to about:config

Well, yes.  The "body" stanza of the site CSS includes the rule:
     overflow:  -moz-scrollbars-none;

If I disable that rule using Developer Tools the scrollbar re-appears.

I have no idea what they are trying to accomplish with that.

Lem Johnson
Maybe this is to passively "force" users not to use SeaMonkey. Survey
Monkey may be wanting to reduce the number of browsers they have to test
their web page with so they make the web page display incorrectly for
any other browser than Chrome (chrome variations also) or Firefox. The
hope is that users will switch to either a Chrome variation or Firefox.
This tactic is not something I thought a professional company would use
to reduce the number of browsers they need to test with their site.

Not sure I understand the issue. AFAIK, you need a ms account to access
the skype service. Where does SeaMonkey come into play here?

Gunther

My impression is that Microsoft (who owns Skype) doesn't interface
easily with SeaMonkey.

Irrelevant in this case.
I thought Skype used its own client program - and it's not a browser -
so what browser you are using is moot.  If I'm wrong and it does use a
browser: if it works with Edge and not with Seamonkey, then it is a
case for this forum.

I think it is a case for Microsoft to not lock users into using their

Using the bleeding edge development version of Firefox 82.0a1, I get
this page.

I see the same in SeaMonkey 2.53.3.

which might cause the user to loose data or end up with a corrupted user

The issue seems to me is that many web page designers do not know about

few sites could function/display better, but nothing I can't deal with.

That is not strictly true.  HTML5 autoplay is disabled.  There should
still be
a play button you can click to get it to play, in most cases.  There
are a few
sites where you need autoplay enabled to get the video to play even
after you

click the play button, but I have an extension that gives me a button to
toggle the setting.

By default, I have media.autoplay.enabled set to false.  When there is a
video I want to play, I use PrefBar to change it to true (selecting a
checkbox on the PrefBar tool bar).  I then reload the Web page, and the
video plays.

How do you change "autoplay.enabled" (or not) in PrefBar?  I don't have
that option in my 'PrefBar Options'...  Is that one I didn't include at
the time of installation -- and how can I get in my PrefBar now?

SeaMonkey 2.53.1.b1 comments about+ Thanks to programmers.

2020-01-25 Thread Paul Bergsagel

Hi.

I have been using SeaMonkey 2.53.1.b1 for three or four days. I am
using an iMac 27" running Catalina MacOS 10.15.2

So far SeaMonkey has been rock solid stable and 99% of the web pages I
go to display as expected. There were a few web pages which failed to
display properly in 2.49.5 and now display correctly with 2.53.1.b1.

This version IMHO is ready for most users to install and use on a daily
bases. I do not miss 2.49.5 at all and everything works. When I first
installed 2.53 I was afraid I might find the beta unstable or some web
pages would not display or function correctly. That is not the case.
2.53.1.b1 is an improvement over 2.49.5 and I would recomend all users
download and install the beta.

ONE CAUTION; Before installing the 2.53 beta make sure you make a back
up of your user profile. Once 2.53 is installed and run for the first
time changes are made to files in your user profile and these changes
make your profile incompatible with SeaMonkey versions earlier than the
2.53.1b1 beta. So if, for any reason, you need to downgrade to 2.49.5
you will need to have a copy of your 2.49.5 user profile.

THANKS TO THE PROGRAMMERS for all the hard work and hours spent in
developing SeaMonkey 2.53.1.b1. All your hard work is appreciated very
much.

Re: Email issues

Hi Ray,

All I can think of is to create a new user profile with a new email
account and if this works you will know something has changed (or is
corrupted) in your old user profile.

You might download the Thunderbird email program and set up a new email
account as Thunderbird and SeaMonkey share the same email code. I hope
you can locate the source of the problem.

Gmail works OK in and out.  It uses the gmail outgoing server.

Trying to send from yahoo uses whatever sever is listed as default.  But
password fails. "Login to server smtp.att.yahoo.com failed."  "Enter new

Sending from gmail to yahoo gets to yahoo on-line account.

Trying to DL from yahoo gets:

"Sending of password for user raydav94 did not succeed. Mail server
pop.mail.yahoo.com responded: Server error - Please try again later."

Anyone have any help for yahoo?

I charter tech and his supervisor said we ran a test, found no trouble,
therefore you need to talk to Mozilla to fix their sync.  They changed

A call to another tech fixed my password and had the opinion that the

stan wrote:

Why would you want to do this?  The Trash folder is there by default
to hold any deleted messages.  If you delete one by mistake you can
retrieve it from Trash until you R-click the folder and select Empty
trash.

Because there are two Teash folders now one under the Input and other
under the Email name.
Before doing anything, quit SeaMonkey and restart it. If that solves
the issue of two trashes you are good to go. If not try some other
suggestion. Sometimes when a program is first opened (i.e. loaded into
the computer's memory) the code gets mixed up and weird things occur. If
the cause of two trashes is the result of a computer glitch, it maybe
one trrash can drawn in two different place. First try the least
harmful solution, restarting Seamonkey, then if this doesn't work
restart the OS and if this doesn't solve the issue, then attempt a fix
you might not be able to undo, such as deleting the extra trash can. If
it was a program glitch and one trash can was drawn in two spots, likely
by now would be fixed when you restarted SeaMonkey or the OS. If you
first tried tot delete the trash Can and the problem was that there was
only one trash, but because of a computer glitch was drawn twice you may
end up deleting your one and only trash can.

The rule of thumb for computer fixes is to try the least harmful
solutions first before the ones that might harm the program or computer,
i.e. deletes your only trash can where there may be no undelete/undo key.

Until the bug 56418 is implemented I'm afraid you may be out of luck.
The code plug-ins require to function has been or is in the process of
being removed from the Gecko engine, i.e. from SeaMonkey in favour of
and need framework. Sadly this means many of our favourite plugins and
extensions will cease to function when upgrading Seamonkey.

The best you can hope for is that some developer will write a new

I have the same behavior as the OP, with that box unchecked.

When I mouse over the image, the cursor changes to a hand, as if it were

Javascript is enabled in the browser.

The Home Depot works for me. all the images open as expected.

I'm using SeaMonkey 2.49.4 and MacOS 10.14.5.

Is Home Depot not sniffing for SeaMonkey 2.49.4 so the site works. Also
I am not spoofing any version of Firefox. You might try using the site
without spoofing Firefox. In general I find that many sites function
much better (i.e. as expected) when I do not turn of Firefox

Simple solution for Google search box: (Re: google search box)

2019-06-19 Thread Paul Bergsagel
I suffered from the Google search mess with SeaMonkey. Then I came
across a solution: I turned off "advertise Firefox compatibility".

To turn off "advertise Firefox compatibility" go to SeaMonkey's
preferences click on Advance>HTTP Networking>(uncheck)Advertise Firefox
compatibility.

This fix solved the difficulties I was having with Google.

Google returned to its normal appearance. Also With this setting turned
off I have yet to find any negative effects on other sites. With this
setting turned off, some sites even appear to work.

However, I generally search with DuckDuckGo at

I seem to recall, some time ago, someone reporting that, when they

their text on line 2 of a 1.5 line high text box.

I don't recall what the fix was ... as I also use dickduckgo.com.

Google does incorrect user agent sniffing and return html gobblygock to

Quoting WIKIPEDIA: "Transport Layer Security (TLS) and its predecessor,
Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), both frequently referred to as "SSL", are
cryptographic protocols that provide communications security over a
computer network.[1] Several versions of the protocols find widespread
use in applications such as web browsing, email, Internet faxing,
instant messaging, and voice-over-IP (VoIP). Websites are able to use
TLS to secure all communications between their servers and web browsers."

It seems that SSL is the name used for both SSL and TLS. TLS has
superseded SSL. If there are separate settings in SeaMonkey for SSL and
TSL, you might try using TLS.

FF 57 Changes and SeaMonkey

2017-08-03 Thread Paul Bergsagel

Hi,

I am wondering how all the new changes to FF57 will effect SeaMonkey?

Will most of the changes be to the rendering engine, Gecko (or whatever
the new rendering engine will be called). Will we see a lot of new
changes to how we as end users interact with and use SeaMonkey?

Can anyone provide an update as to what the changes to FF 57 will mean
for SeaMonkey?

Thanks.

Download the file from

With SeaMonkey still running, select the file, drag it, and drop it into
the display area of SeaMonkey.

Alternatively, go to [Tools > Add-ons Manager] on the SeaMonkey menu

with a star or gear just to the left of the "Search all add-ons" input

From File" in the pull-down menu. Navigate to where the file was
downloaded, select it, and select the Open button.

I forgot the following for after you install PDF.js:

On the left side of the Add-ons Manager window, select Plugins. If you
can find an entry for Adobe Acrobat, select the button to the right of
that entry. On the pull-down menu, select Never Activate.

Thank you David for your assistance. Your instructions worked. I am

My experience on Windows, is that it's changed over time. At one stage
there was a "preload" of DLLs that were supposed to load once, then sit
on the task bar to make the browser load more quickly (I didn't like
this), but anyway, a few builds later (around year 2004) launching the
SM browser was really quick and I forgot about it.

To test SM load time, I usually set the home page to a local HTML file,
so it doesn't need internet access to launch, thereby cutting out any
home page related network issues.

Now in 2016, I get "slow" load time of around four seconds, but I think
it's related to something in the network stack (e.g. winsock) where it's
much more bloated that it used to be, and in my case there's a VPN
virtual adapter which seems to cause a delay.

There's also the SM user profile and SM cache which can get quite big,
so it's worth trying with a clean profile.

I also have a local HTML file as my home page, and it loads instantly.
If I click an Internet link on that page it also loads nearly instantly.

For instance, my own site appears with no
perceptible/countable time lag.

My suspicion is that the more complex the page the longer this lag time
is. In my experience if a page does not have very complex html and few,
if any scripts, the page will load quickly.

We cannot repeat this enough. Thank you everyone for your

toughest one I've done. However, this isn't to say that
I did this alone. Kudos go to a lot of people, particularly
the guys/gals in Mozilla's IT and RelEng dept.

I particularly want to thank Nick Thomas for his sheer
brilliant idea that helped me unhork the partial mar upload
script as well as pointing out the necessary changes
to migrate off FTP to S3.

Thanks to Jens Hatlak for taking the time to do the Website
patch. (Really, sorry for the delay.)

Also, thanks to Justin Wood for giving me this opportunity
to work out the problems myself. If you all take a look
at bug 1233615, I think I rivaled the mess I did with
the GTK bug (conveniently forgotten the # :P ). The
repo changes I made... oh boy. Only time will heal
the mess^H^H^H^H wounds. ;P

Anyway, most of all, thanks to all the users out there
for hanging on to this project. The words of encouragement
(especially during the broken-hand period) definitely gave
me a boost of energy.

Oh. Before I forget and in the light of being transparent,
there is a chance I might have goofed something up, especially
during the 2.39 Win32 builds as well as the 2.40 builds and
also the partial mar and complete mar updates. I hope I
didn't screw things up too much, if at all (here's hoping).
Please do post here on your findings.

Hi. There is a bug in SeaMonkey V.2.35 on OSX where the three round
buttons (red, yellow, green) in the upper left side of the window. The
developers know about this bug.

If, you are using OSX and the Dock is visible you can right-click of the
SeaMonkey icon in the dock where you will find an option to quit SeaMonkey.

About resizing the windows-> I do not know how to do this without the
three buttons.
