By go away meaning?

1) You don't have Events & Tasks in the Menu bar.
2) You don't see it in the Add-ons Manager.
3) Have Events & Tasks in the Menu bar, but didn't select it and
then select Calendar.

4) Other

You may want to peruse the Known Issues section in the release
notes on Lightning and other distributed extensions not appearing.

Walt - it is #1 and #3.

I did look at 'Known Issues' and did not see any reference there
unless it was glaring right at me and I could not see it... which
is possible, for sure.

TIA - bo1953

Bo1953, try this:
*-in the browser, type in the address bar: 'about:config' & see
the tab contents change to a list of text lines
*-in the search frame above the listings, copy/paste this setting
name:

'extensions.installedDistroAddon.{e2fda1a4-762b-4020-b5ad-a41df1933103}'
and press 'Enter'

*-in the tab, see only a line which begins with what you searched for
*-right-click on that entry, and select 'Reset' from the menu
*-open the Mail window, verify 'Events and Tasks' menu item is
visible

*-Click on Events and Tasks, then select 'Calendar' from the menu
*-Verify the calendar appears in a new tab in the Mail window

Since the first release where Lightning was included be default, I
occasionally have issues when installing a newer version of SM,
where the extension checker plugin doesn't like Lightning so wants
to disable/remove it.  When I reset that setting, all is well again.

RicklesP,

Thank you for the recommendation.

That line of code does not exist (that I can find) in my system, so
this has left me perplexed.

Shall I re-install SM?

TIA - bo1953

(picking the first of your four replies ...) In SeaMonkey, select
Tools -> Add-on Manager and, in the left hand column of that screen,
select 'Extensions'

Is Chatzilla showing?? Is it enabled (i.e. is the Disable button
showing)??

Daniel,

Yes, chatzilla is showing and enabled.

Thank you - bo1953

So does that mean you now see the 'Events and Tasks' column in the
"Mail & News" screen??

If not, down in the bottom right of the "Mail & News" screen, do you
see a calendar with "Today Pane" and a downward arrow head?? If so,
click the arrowhead so it points up ^ .

Is your point's One and Three in your original post (above) now
working right??

What does ChatZilla have to do with the Lightning Calendar?

I still see Events and Tasks in the Menu bar of the Mail & Newsgroups
window with ChatZilla disabled.

Youtube not a big issue. It's mostly the sites with ads. When it
freezes in the lower left says waiting for so-n-so. Why doesn't this
happen to Chrome? The STOP button doesn't work either. And you can't
close the window. Just the damn hourglass...
Is your SM better if you use an ad blocker with uBlock Origin?
It's not
perfect, but it helps. Lots of web sites don't care for older
browsers
like SeaMonkey that use older Gecko web browser engine (Firefox
v57). If
you try the new Firefox v81.0.1, lots of web sites work fine even
with

ads (not recommended IMO). :(

If I am reading you all right Seamonkey has had it's day.  I am loathe
to change as it has been my friend for over 20-years.  My biggest
thing is the email, I am used to it and love it.  It pops right over
from Gmail.  Also being able to send a link.  Chrome doesn't do that.
I might as well for now run two browsers.  Sad...

"is the email, I am used to it and love it."
Why not using thunderbird ?

Have you seen the latest Thunderbird?  Ugh. I prefer SeaMonkey over both
Thunderbird and FireFox.  If someone could develop a SeaMonkey theme for
them perhaps I could tolerate them, but as is now I use FireFox only
when I absolutely must.

Dave

Thunderbird is more simple .. I appreciate it.

You are welcome to use it.  Definitely a matter of taste.  I have been
using a suite since Netscape days and have no interest in changing at
this late date.

Dave

I too have been using a suite since mid 90's but time has come and I
moved every thing over to FF and TB a month or so ago, life has never
been easier and less stressful. Ill keep looking here from time to time
to reminisce.

I too have come to a fork in the road and am now looking to move to
another browser. the stalling and memory usage has now gotten out of
control. since we move to the 2.53 series my ram usage has doubled,
and I don't have double the ram so it swaps constantly and because of
this its slow as a wet week.

None of the other browsers I have tried including Firefox use as much
ram for the same sites open.

Thanks

Are you using the binaries from
https://www.seamonkey-project.org/ or is
it a distribution-compiled version?

Distro version (manjaro). I have now just downloaded the ones from
seamonkey and will try this for a few days and see how it goes

Thanks! Please let us know how it goes - it will be very helpful to know
whether this happens with both packages or not.

Ok I have been using 2.53.4b1 for a few days downloaded directly
from SM website, I have been doing pretty much the same things I
always do and have at this point in time an improvement in ram
usage, down around 40%.

Ill keep using this for a few more days and report back again.

Thanks

Ok I can safely say Im still having the same issues .. over a period
of a few hours CPU and RAM go through the roof.

Pity I was hoping for a fix.

Hi,

Thanks for testing! Would you say it behaves mostly in the same way or
does it take noticeably longer to show these issues?

Honestly ball park the same give or take.
