Deleting Expired News Posts

2011-01-16 Thread cciaffone

When looking at older articles on a newsgroup, I sometimes
see something like this:

Error!
newsgroup server responded:No such article number 70907
Perhaps the article has expired
4c05603f-c192-4793-ba00-7df49f683...@f42g2000yqn.googlegroups.com (70907)
Click here to remove all expired articles

When I Click Here SM 2.0.9 hangs interminably. So I
shut down SM and restart. At that point the expired
articles are gone and all is well

EXCEPT that I had to shutdown SM to make it happen.

So howcum??? Whyizthat???

Have I Migrated My Profile??

2009-11-11 Thread cciaffone

I am still not sure whether I actually migrated
my 1.1.18 profile to a 2.0 format or whether I just
copied over the files. The Migration Wizard seemed a
bit unsure as to what it was actually doing.

In any case, are there certain file names and/or formats
that are different from 1.1.18 to 2.0?? Can I look in the
folders and files and find some 2.0 marker??

Well that's exactly my question. From the stuff I've read online,
the sm 2 profile and file structures are different from those
in sm 1.1.18, but that sm 2 can use the 1.1.18 profile and
files sorta/kinda/maybe. I read that you are better off
migrating (their term, not mine) to sm 2.

I just want to know, in simple terms, how I can look in
d:\data\seamonkey\users\username where all the mail,
newsgroups, bookmarks, addy book etc are, and tell
whether they are in native sm 2 format or are still
in 1.1.18 format. Kapische??

Another Migration Question

2009-11-10 Thread cciaffone

Just upgraded our second PC to sm 2, and this one
went different than the last. The Migration demon
started and I selected a profile from 1.1.18 to
migrate. But when it finished and sm2 started,
there was just the Default user only. So I started
the Profile Manager to create a profile, and pointed it
to the old 1.1.18 folder that I thought I had migrated.
All seems to work well now, but

IS there a way to know for sure that I have indeed
migrated my 1.1.18 profile to a 2.0 profile??

Everything is in a d:\data\seamonkey\users\username
folder.

So what can I look for, in terms of file names/types,
in that folder to ensure the profile was migrated?

Yeah, but can you please answer the question

I am just using the old 1.1.18 profile???

Lemme Try This Again

2009-11-02 Thread cciaffone

There's this web site I go to. I requires an ID and a
password. With sm 1.1.18 it ALWAYS requires an ID and
a password to get into the Main Page.

But with sm 2, somehow I always bypass the ID and
password, and go directly to the Main Page.

Why is that?

With sm 2 I never need to logon. Whenever I select the

Where is the setting in sm 2 that would control this??

SM2: No Profiles Found

2009-10-29 Thread cciaffone

So I re-installed SM2 without uninstalling 1.1.18.

SM2 installed and started -- with ONLY the Default profile.

WTF?

Nowhere in the process did SM ask me whether I wanted to
import anything. I got no bookmarks, no email addys,
no nothing! What did I do wrong??

How can I get SM 2 to import my 3 profiles from 1.1.18
(which thankfully I have kept aboard)??

Migrating a Profile

2009-10-29 Thread cciaffone

I tried this and it worked, but have I done any
damage??

I made a new folder d:/seamonkey2/users
and copied into it my 1.1.18 profile folder so it
looks like this: d:/seamonkey2/users/myname

Then in SM 2 I went into Manage Profiles, selected Create,
and chose that as the folder. Bingo. I have a new myname
profile with complete newsgroups, bookmarks, email, addys,
etc. Altho it did not carry over the url history, if I
start typing a URL I've used before, it finishes it for me.

Anyhow, is this gonna be ok??

Hey!! I ran seamonkey.exe -migration with no profile name and the

Default and the myprofile I created previously. The migration
wizard ran and now I have a legitimate myprofile profile -- I hope.

Which Drive for Profile??

2009-10-29 Thread cciaffone

I always keep ALL my programs on C: and ALL my data on
D: and above. And with SM 1.1.8 I could ensure that
my profiles, my emails, my bookmarks, etc, are all
in d:\data\seamonkey\users\profilename.

But now that I took one PC to sm 2, and used the
superintelligent migration wizard, where the hell
are the emails, the bookmarks, etc

I know where I migrated them from. But I don't
have a clue as to where I migrated them to.
