The inability to close down or rename old newsgroups is one of the
reasons why these groups are not fed to Usenet.
In addition, the mailing lists of some of the to-be-terminated
newsgroups are gated through gmane, eg
gmane.comp.mozilla.seamonkey.user, gmane.comp.mozilla.announce.
If replacement mailing lists are needed then Freelists
<https://www.freelists.org/> would seem to be the obvious solution,
having a "business model" similar to that of SeaMonkey.
