Extension checking is in the Mozilla backend and changed significatly between 2.40 and 2.46 (mostly not for the better). Signing requirements are turned off but still some checks for sideloaded apps are done. Extensions might get disabled but from tests reenabling them again worked. No

The previous script swallowed entries or just ended the search with an exception. There were also some errors in the script which just resulted in nothing displayed in e.g. under storage. It now tries to map them to the correct domain and when it fails displays them under the global * domain.

Yes because it probably was broken before or just swallowed some entries. It now should display and process all of them which might mean it might need some performance tuning in the source code. You can set data_manager.debug to true in about:config and check what it is doing in the console.
