This was before I was able to update to the latest SeaMonkey version.
With that version it works as it should.

So, I guess you haven't checked in safe mode yet?

What security apps do you have installed? Disabled them to see if they
are causing a problem?

Not having a problem with SM 2.53.6 and Facebook here on Fedora 33
Linux. I don't have any extensions installed.

I didn't need to use safe mode as 2.53.6 works normally with Facebook.
Thanks for your responses.

Is there a way to fix this?

Thanks in advance

Dimitri

I finally upgraded to a 2.53 level on the 10th (Tuesday)
On the 12th (Thursday) I vanished for a couple of days.
This is my first full day back and it has happened to me.
I have a performance monitor running all the time and it kept on showing
peaks of 100% for a few seconds, running "top -i" in a konsole window
made it clear that Seamonkey was causing this. Then the system froze,
totally. The freeze included both "top" the other performance monitor,
a program playing music in the background started repeating one second
the way bad CDs sometimes do. A ping from another system failed, all I
could do was turn the machine off and then restart.

Seamonkey then came up cleanly with a restored session.
This is quite clearly a problem with 2.53.x, I ran 2.49.4 for two years
and this did not happen even once.
The probably cause was a news page which checked for updates every few
(12?) seconds. If this looks like happening again I'll be closing tabs
to see what stops it, 2.49.4 did not like Google Maps much but things
never got to the stage where the entire system became totally unresponsive.

This is a 4-virtual-processor system.

Having seen that information, posts by GerardJan are considered to be
spam on this group and are filtered - after a delay of several hours -
on the server.  No idea whether a script is used or if the moderation is
done by hand.
Threads like this one are also not particularly welcomed by the
moderator, that might explain why one of your postings (if I understood
the sender-description) vanished.
This is a Mozilla-Help Forum, although I agree that posts vanishing is
of interest.

Yes, there are certain senders that have gotten onto Chris Ilias's $#!+
list, and all their postings, no matter how helpful or innocuous, are
routinely deleted from the newsgroup. I should know -- I posted one
message back in November that he didn't like, and ever since, everything
I send, no matter how I alter my name and sig, are deleted. I've even
tried using a VPN to change my IP address, but somehow he detects me and
purges the message.

Since it takes several hours, I must assume he's running the filter
manually, and I can't imagine how he has the time to bother. No life, I
guess... And once you get on the $#!+ list, there's no way off -- he
doesn't reply to emails either here or off-list.

So if you want the full NG unsabotaged by his petty vindictiveness, you
have to read it though Google Groups.

There are a lot of extensions that have been created in the WEBEXT

Hi,

I use a fairly recent Win10 Dell laptop with i7 processor and 24GB of RAM. I
recently upgraded it from 8GB to 24GB RAM hoping that it will make Seamonkey
run better but with no luck. Even with such spec Seamonkey is sluggish and
freezes at some sites.

Since it was mentioned, the reason I have not upgraded to 2.53.4, is that some
extensions do not work there. I am hoping that soon Seamonkey will be
compatible with all Firefox extensions. Until then it will be a struggle for

You are welcome to use it. Definitely a matter of taste. I have been

Yea, I still love SM since I had been a suite user since Netscape's
days. I really hope SM gets the newer Geck web browser engines soon so
it can be fast as current Firefox's. If it gets worse, then I will have
to use Firefox (don't like its GUI) and Thunderbird separately. :(

"SeaMonkey has had it's day" not quite ... but the limited team of
SM Developers also have Day Jobs, Families, etc, that take up
development time and they do it for FREE.

Give them a chance, they'll get there!

You know the drill. Safe mode, that don't work try a new profile.
Good Luck and enjoy the music.
Ant I think you may be on to something here. I am running WG9s build

rv:60.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/60.0 SeaMonkey/2.53.5).

I have no add ons, just the plain vanilla SeaMonkey and I am using the
latest MacOS. I rarely have web pages lock up on me, have the browser
crash. I may have the odd unresponsive script or a form button fail to
respond, but for 95% of my browsing SeaMonkey just works (though on some
of the more complex sites the browser does slow down).

I suspect those SeaMonkey users having crashes it is the addons not
SeaMonkey that is causing the issues.

Can this be fixed? It locks up so bad I have to reboot!

The problem is that SeaMonkey uses older Gecko web browser engine (what
Firefox v57 uses IIRC). We have to wait for the developers to release a
stable version and that will be a very long time. :( Reboot? That's not
good. Can't you just kill SeaMonkey's process instead?

Seamonkey freezing on new Facebook

2020-10-03 Thread dstamat via support-seamonkey
Dear All,

Since the introduction of the new Facebook interface, Seamonkey (Windows 64bit
2.49.5) has become very sluggish. After a couple of minutes the RAM consumption
reaches 2GB and freezes whenever I try to see pictures.

Is there a way to fix this?

Thanks in advance

Everyone is on vacation and thus on FB... likely no more than server

after a lot of testing and reinstallation, I still can not get the video

FB has a tool to download all data, which includes all photos...
additionally, most phones will automagically back up all photos to their
phone's cloud data base unless the owner has opted out...

I've never used facebook, so I don't know if this would work or no but
the first thing I'd try is the down them all addon:

2nd choice would be your favorite search engine - wanting to download

Data Manager to see if you've blocked images at facebook.com.

Checked all of that and I don't see a problem. I did note that
someone uploaded a video to one of my Face Book groups and I can see
the video.

Arnie, something else to try! In Edit-Preferences->Privacy &
Security->Images under Image Acceptance Policy have you got "Load all
images" selected or something else?? The middle setting could be your
problem!

That was my item 2) above; he ruled it out.

Ah!! So it was. Sorry for the noise!

Re: GRANDISSIMO POST DI MICHELE NISTA (SUO FACEBOOK ACCOUNT)! GRANDISSIMO POST DI GENIO BORSISTICO ED EROE CIVILE MICHELE NISTA, A PROPOSITO DI LEGA LADRONA ED ASSASSINA! PUR SE SCRITTO DA ME, ANTONY,

2017-09-17 Thread ANTONINO IZZONI

svolgeva presumibilmente in maniera abusiva.
nome finisse all'attenzione dello stalker, dando così inizio alle persecuzioni.

gruppi google, forum, Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Blogger e in altri spazi
virtuali.
materiale postato dallo stalker.
farneticazioni su blog in lingua straniera (portoghese, spagnolo, russo,

in ambito finanziario.

affermazioni, violenze, immagini raccapriccianti quasi sempre a sfondo
pornografico o pedopornografico.
denaro sporco e denaro mafioso. In altri posts, prodotti sempre ricorrendo
all'utilizzo di identità altrui, si assiste all'autocelebrazione di Michele
Nista. Si definisce "RE MIDA, GENIO, EROE CIVILE". Scrive che (citiamo
testualmente) "AZZECCA IN AZIONI E MATERIE PRIME, SEMPRE. SU TUTTO. OGNI
GIORNO. IN OGNI ANGOLO DEL PIANETA TERRA. SIA A LIVELLO DI AZIONARIO, CHE DI
MATERIE PRIME. GENIO IN INVESTIMENTI MOBILIARI, MA PURE UN EROE" perché sta
 pericoloso.

not working with 2.48. Can anyone help?

I just went back to 2.46, and FB Purity is working fine again. So
something in 2.48 broke it.

When was the last time you updated the extension?

The current version is 19.1.0 released on 2017-07-04.

Yes, I'm using the current version.

Contact the developer of the extension.

Perhaps he should fiddle inside the zip file to accept the new version
of SM (2.48)

I had to make this change to about:config in 2.46 to get FB Purity to
work with that version.
I set "general.useragent.override" to the value "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT
6.1; WOW64; rv:46.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/46.0"

Do I have to change this again to make this line compatible with 2.48 now?

Did you change your cookie permissions? I'd expect that Facebook, like
other sites, stores a big pile of cookies in your browser, and if you've
changed a browser setting that causes your browser to delete these
cookies when it's closed, or after a very short period of time, Facebook
will make you log in again.

Have a look at what permissions you're using for Facebook (e.g. see
what's indicated when you pick Tools -> Cookie Manager while on
Facebook, or Tools -> Cookie Manager -> facebook.com -> Permissions); or
close Seamonkey, open it, and then (without attempting to log into
Facebook or do anything else) look to see whether you have stored
cookies from Facebook (Tools -> Cookie Manager -> facebook.com ->
Cookies, or chrome://communicator/content/permissions/cookieViewer.xul).

I just got some interesting comments from the developer of FBP:

"It seems Seamonkey is claiming to be compatible with FF49, but it
doesn't actually have a crucial feature of that browser which is "Web

Extensions" support. The version of FBP that you are downloading is the
WX version which uses the Web Extensions API.

To get the non-Web Extensions API version of the extension, you would
need to change your browser's user agent to anything between Firefox 19
and Firefox 48, then go to the install page on FBPURITY.COM and you
should be able to download a compatible version of the FBP extension. I
don't have time to work on this right now, but I might alter the install
page to provide the non-WX version of the extension for Seamonkey, if it
is detected."

How do I change the user agent?
