This quick solution should be tried first before copying mail files.

In times long ago i had simply renamed the chrome folder. SM has to be
closed, of course.

Im had a lovely working copy of Seamonkey 1.1 18 and so I added some
add-ons and then all my troubles began. I havae treid to delete all
Seamonkey and re-download it but get the same results. It runs from
the download but never again. All my e-mail lurks in it. Help!!

Delete/rename the "chrome.rdf" and "overlays.rdf" files in the
chrome/ subdirectory of your SeaMonkey profile. You'll have to
reinstall your profile-based extensions.

Download Seamonkey 1.1.8.
Delete programm folder.
Install Seamonkey
Create new profile in Seamonkey
Test, test and test.
Import your existing mails into the new profile by:
1) Rename the mail files (inbox, sent etc) in the old profile directory to
inboxold etc
2) Copy these files into the new profile directory and

3) Copy the mails within Seamonkey from the inboxold etc. folders to the
appropriate folders in the new profile.
