You don't always get a warning on some web sites.
If I see the site is going to send a pdf file I can refrain.

Got it !

Now 'about:plug-ins' shows where it was.

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 8.0\Reader\browser\nppdf32.dll

I renamed it

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 8.0\Reader\browser\xxxnppdf32.dll

and it is gone.

I can bring it back by removing the 'xxx' - rename it.

Thanks much !

 Try this:

Open Acrobat Reader, go to edit-settings-Internet and set Display PDF
in browser to off. That should force it to open it externally, leaving
Seamonkey alone.

In theory..

Adobe reader 8.0 has it under

Preferences | internet

use reader in browser.

Thanks.

Get rid of the Adobe Acrobat plug-in so the browser will prompt you to
open or save the file externally.

I erased nppdf32.dll from the Mozilla.org plug-in directory as per
http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/faqs/uninstall.html

However - Adobe Reader is still listed in About:Plug-Ins after
exiting and re-entering SM 1.1

Am I doing something wrong?

DoctorBill

It should also list the path there, have a look again ;-)

Nope

across the top of each item is:

should be above each of that table. (I hope that this also exists in
 SM1.1.x and not only in v2.0 ;-) )

My SM 1.1.17 does not show paths (on Windows).

However I have about 12 instances of that DLL files on my system.
Maybe it's getting it from somewhere else in the PATH perhaps.

use pdfviewer from Foxit software instead of Adobe Reader:

It's FREE!

Browsers that are more modern
--Webkit-based Safari, Konqueror, Google Chrome
and even (yeech) Trident-based Internet Exploder 8[1]--
don't have this problem because they are multi-process;
the current incarnation of Gecko is only multi-threaded.

There are rumors that Gecko developers will address this.
Until then, handle these using a download manager.
.
.
[1] ...but none of those has the extension infrastructure
that Gecko does.
