Downloaded the installer onto OSX. Tried installing. Won’t allow me to
install in /Applications because my user is not administrator.
Selected another location instead. Then a ton of errors ensure. Very
broken.

Hi,
Normally, on os x, you could install this wherever you whish.
For many years, I even had it installed on an external disc.

By default though, it installs itself into your Home directory, but it's
invisible.

So, one needs for instance "Invisiblix" to see it.
It is ofcourse always possible to makesomewhere an alias that stays visible.
If in need of high security though, you can put this alias with other
sensible stuff in a sparse bundle

or sparse image, protected with a PW.

Re: [freenet-support] freenet doesn't work on osx

2015-11-04 Thread Stephen Oliver
Hi,

This is largely an issue with the way Java currently works on Mac OS X, but
it's easy to solve.

You'll need to install Apple's Java system package [1] as well as Oracle's
Java 8 package (which you probably already have). For the moment, some Java
applications don't quite work properly without both. Then you should have
no trouble installing Freenet wherever you like on your Mac, and it will
still run with the most current version of Oracle Java that you have
installed.

I'm working on a replacement for our Freenet installer that will avoid
issues like this in the future, however it hasn't been released yet. Sorry
for the trouble!

If you installed Freenet to
C:\Users\your-username\AppData\Local\Freenet, which is the default,
uninstallfreenet.exe will be in that directory.

Hi. Unfortunately this is a known bug in the Windows installer. We only have
one Windows developer willing to work on installers, and he is unable to
reproduce the bug himself. I have CC'ed him, hopefully he can help you to find
out what the problem is. If all else fails try the Linux/Mac installer from the
website.
