Or rather you have the wrong team.  You want one of Oracle's IT support teams, 
as you want a mobile client compatible with Oracle's intranet instant messaging 
server.

Pidgin itself only works on platforms that support the GTK+ GUI library, which 
tend to be platforms with mice, but Pidgin is one of many IM clients and, given 
our guess that Oracle are using XMPP, there should be several mobile device 
clients that will work with Oracle's IM service.

We are advised that people within the Oracle network can use

Please explain to whoever should be supporting you why you went to the wrong

There is no iPhone build of Pidgin.  It needs the GTK+ graphics library, 
which is really a desktop library.  There is also some reluctance, in 
the open source community, to develop software for iPhone, given the 
iPhone app store policies.


If you can find the technical details of the service that your employer 
uses, which you will need to do from your employer, as the don't tell 
the Pidgin users outside of Oracle, who respond to this list, you should 
look for iPhone applications that are compatible.


We assume that Oracle uses XMPP, and Google came up with this 
 
when I searched for one.

pidgin is a client capable of accessing various different types of 
services, you'll have to investigate the particular needs of the 
service(s) you intend to use.

If you aren't using pidgin then pidgin isn't involved...

So is your question Does Facebook encrypt IMs?? If so, the answer is 
that Facebook may use HTTPS consistently or they may not, but they 
definitely have access to decrypt your IM traffic for their internal use.


While there might be plug-ins that allow you to encrypt locally before 
sending text, these will only work if both sides use the same technique, 
so no, your text won't be encrypted if one side is using a potentially 
unencrypted endpoint like Facebook's own interface.

Using Pidgin As XMPP client for Cisco Presence - Address book query

I'm able to login to cisco presence through Pidgin using a XMPP account. I was 
wondering how I can search a corporate directory via LDAP in pidgin. I can't 
see any option in the Pidgin client to do this.

I've followed the Presence instructions and set it up on the server but where 
do I configure it on the client?

QUery on pidgin - my version is 2.10.6

Hi,

I downloaded an image and set it as custom smiley.
Now when I use this in a chat room - others are not getting the image.
They are getting the shortcut what I typed in.

I am assuming, if they also have the same image saved with same shortcut, it 
would have come.

Is this how pidgin works? Are we actually giving a reference to the underlying 
file system?
I thought it could be some kind of painting on the screen from the source 
(sender) - like u may be sending the ch bytes similar to the text messages..

I would just like to know  what is the expected beahvior here.

Perl API / Kerberos query

I'm trying to adapt the perl script on the website to handle prpl-sipe 
protocols  but I've hit a brick wall with regards to two issues:

How do I set the krb5 boolean needed for a single-sign-on? I can't find 
anything in pidgin-docs regarding this.

so far it's:

wheni i log in through pidgin from computer A i have some particular
settings (such as groups, accounts etc)
is there any way i can centralize it like if i login from computer B i get
the same groups and accounts etc, so that i dont have to spend hours to
build my lists/configure etc afresh

Do you mean to add custom emoticons? Is that even something that the QQ
protocol/official clients support? As to file transfer either pidgin
doesn't believe your friend can receive the file or pidgin doesn't support
qq file transfers at all. Either of those is possible, I don't know what
our QQ ft support status is. Our QQ support is largely (basically
entirely) donated and the maintainers haven't been around in a while as
far as I know.

You can use `pidgin -n` or select Offline as your startup status in
the preferences so that Pidgin doesn't automatically connect when you
launch it.

Query about XMPP console

Hi,
I am studying about XMPP for my college 
project.
I wanted to see the stanzas sent and 
recieved by client from server.
For that I am using XMPP 
console.
problem is until I open the console some 
dialoges are already done so I miss those stanzas.
Is there a way to start console 
automatically as soon as  pidgin starts and my Jabber account is selected in 
console by default.

Query - Joining rooms

I've got pidgin set up, so that if anyone goes into the room, I
automatically enter it.

HOWEVER, if no one else is in the room, I cannot join it  be the
first to be in it

Is this normal ??

We leave it up to each translator to determine which tools to use. If a
particular translator wants to use Rosetta (on Launchpad), they can.

I hope it's okay to submit here, rather than creating a new template and
