Extreme challenges best suited for candidates with proven track record and comfortable working in large Enterprise environments of 30,000 users or more. Proven success of collaboration with multiple IT towers and Business Units. The Virtualization Engineer will provide technical leadership in areas of information technology across the AIG Global infrastructure. The Virtualization Engineer will participate in an advanced engineering and support role within the area of VMWare ESX, Citrix XenDesktop, Citrix XenApp, Citrix Provisioning Server. The incumbent will provide escalation support to the Virtualization Services Team Tier 2. Virtualization Engineers will coordinate implementation of recommended solutions with operational teams and evaluate the impact of changes across global sites. Virtualization Engineers will work with project teams to develop plans for mitigating any possible adverse impacts. Virtualization Engineers will be responsible for coordinating testing and approving solutions for AIGGS Virtualization Delivery Services. *Role Requirements * • Virtualization Engineers will have extensive knowledge and understandings of the infrastructure architecture and global standards; • Apply Virtualized engineering skill sets to provide solutions for specific projects and in general to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the AIGGS Virtualized environment. • Knowledge of Citrix Netscaler and Access Gateway would be beneficial; • Enforce Application Lifecycle Management Framework; • Work with Application Business owners to utilize the Application Lifecycle Framework and collaborate closely with Desktop Engineering packaging team to ensure standards; • Maximize number of applications per XenApp virtual disk to maintain a least # of images possible; • Collaborate with Anti-virus team to maintain best practice exclusions for XenApp, XenDesktop, Appsense, Provisioning Servers, and Windows 7 virtual operating systems; • Collaborate with Application Business owners to migrate legacy environments to new XenApp 6.5 FR3, Provisioning Server 6.1.1, and XenDesktop 7.1; • Act as Tier-3 escalation for Citrix Administrators (Tier-2); • Utilize Powershell Programmer Interface for Provisioning Services to automate joining servers to existing farms and further automate and streamline processes for PVS using Powershell; • Create and maintain PVS Master Target Devices; • Collaborate with patching team to patch XenApp and Windows 7 VDISKs hosted by Provisioning Services; • Monitor Service Now requests to create PVS Hosted images for Testing / Validating Business Applications requiring migration to the new environment; • Coordinate with Network Engineering Team to create, manage, and monitor PVS TFTP Virtual Servers and boot.iso behind dedicated Netscaler VIPs removing that functionality from PVS ; • Implement new application installs and application patches to multiple PVS hosted VDISKs daily – 42,000 users with 3000+ business applications – initially legacy XenApp 5.x and XenApp 6.5 FR3 and XenDesktop 5.6 to 7.1; • Utilize Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) 2012 to deploy Business Application MSI packages to virtualized XenApp images streamed utilizing Citrix Provisioning Servers; • Coordinate with Desktop Engineering Packaging team to obtain new MSI applications ready for deployment; • Provide Tier-3 support for existing, large, global dispersed, 65 Citrix Farms with legacy applications while adhering to a strict migration methodology to eliminate all legacy farms; • Assist with migration of legacy applications in legacy Citrix environments to 2008 R2 64 Bit from 2003 32 Bit and XenApp 5.X; • Assist with consolidation of 70+ Xenapp VDISKs to least possible number achievable ; • Collaborate with Desktop Engineering team to co-manage Microsoft APP-V packages streamed to XenApp and XenDesktop utilizing Microsoft 2012; • Create and manage XenApp Worker Groups and corresponding AD Groups or OU’s to create application Silo’s where deemed necessary; • Coordinate with Monitoring and Tools Team to create proactive alerting and console for Citrix Team Tier-1 support; • Coordinate with Tier-4 to create, maintain, and maximize use of Citrix Policies for XenApp and XenDesktop end-users; • Coordinate with Tier-4 to create, maintain, and streamline Group Policy Objects and settings for each layer under the dedicated Citrix OU; • Migration of applications from legacy Citrix farms from XenApp 5.0 to XenApp 6.5 read-only standard mode PVS images; • ITIL Processes - Change, Incident and Problem management; • Provide maintenance engineering work of the AIGGS Virtualized environment. This is an ongoing process that involves updates on a global scale as well as high impact issues that need immediate resolution; • Develop and implement testing procedures for all changes in the Virtualized environment; • Supervise all testing and review and approve all test results in the Virtualized environment;. • Participate in technology support teams consisting of IT architects and global/regional/local infrastructure engineers to ensure that architectures developed meet regional and local business requirements; • Review final technical designs from Tier-4 for local, regional, and global implementations of any technology within the Virtualized environment and determine the impact of such changes; • Review complex critical application and infrastructure environments and ensure appropriate lifecycle viability and support. Ensure existing environments are appropriately engineered and provisioned and with the operational teams to address problem areas; • Collaborate with technical writers creating, developing and updating documentation library, including but not limited to Best Practices, and procedures Documents, and Installation Documentation; • Work to prevent/minimize application/front-end/system/interface outages and interruptions • Establish and maintain mutual beneficial relationships with Application Development, Capacity Management, Help Desk, Desktop Engineering Packaging, Change Management, Incident Management, and further identify dependency teams required for success; • Collaborate with all IT Towers relative to virtualization to improve efficiency, create and document streamlined processes, coordinate with Capacity Management to maintain CMDB (Configuration Management Database); and • Collaborate with end-users relative to UAT of newly install applications or application upgrades and patches, shadow user while testing, create run-book by capturing every screen print, obtain user signature, store run-book(s) on SharePoint and thereby eliminating risk to Virtualization Team whereby customer cannot open SEV1 ticket for something that was not UAT’d. UAT documentation is one of the most critical functions to validate customer truly UAT’d each function prior to updating the XenApp or XenDesktop master image. *Role Qualifications * • Minimum of 10 years of experience in progressive roles from Administrator, to Engineer; • Minimum of 5 years of experience providing Tier 3 escalation support for legacy and current versions of Citrix and VMWare ESX; • Advanced knowledge relative to administration, engineering, and implementation relative to virtualization in the following areas; Citrix XenApp 5.X, XenApp 6.X, XenApp 6.5 FR1, FR2, FR3, XenDesktop 5.X to 7.X, Provisioning Server 6.X, Store Front 2.X, Web Interface 5.X, License Server 11.X, APPDNA 6.X to 7X; • Advanced knowledge relative to administration, engineering, design, and implementation in; o Microsoft Server 2000, 2003, 2008, 2008R2 o Microsoft Active Directory 2000, 2003, 2008R2 o Microsoft Active Directory Group Policies and Organizational Units; • Proven success in large (30,000+ users) virtualization global architectures having multiple Active Directory Domains, XenApp Farms, XenDesktop Farms, PVS Farms, multiple zones, Citrix Policies; • Verifiable experience migrating applications from 32 bit to 64 bit and platform upgrades such as XenApp 5.x to XenApp 6.5; • Extensive application debugging experiencing utilizing Citrix tools, Microsoft System Internals Tools, Wireshark or other packet capturing tools, PVS logging; • Advanced knowledge regarding local High-Availability relative to servers, power, networking, and remote management capabilities; • Strong working knowledge of IT Management practices and ITIL, willingness to obtain ITIL Foundations certification ; • Advanced technical knowledge of enterprise IT architecture and management solutions, including virtualization hypervisors and desktop virtualization brokers, in particular Citrix, VMware ESX, vCenter, vCOPS, and Wyse Thin Client end points; • Advanced analytical/problem solving ability, critical decision making, intuitive, un-yielding focus as workload rises focus increases, multi-task becomes second nature often playing mediator or calming the storm by focusing everyone on a common goal required, mediator on calls if necessary, creative, independent thinking skills; and • Adept skills with Provisioning Services Farm management and corresponding VDISKs management, updating, coordinating UAT.
