[sustainable_tompkins-l] Fwd: NFA News #11 (WE WON!!!!)

2017-05-10 Thread Maura Stephens
Congratulations to everyone who’s worked so hard for so long to fight this
insane scheme. Now to stop ALL fossil fuel storage (and distribution, etc.) in
NYS. Still, great cause for celebration! You deserve it!

OK. So they gave up on storing natural gas but they still plan to transport and
store propane. A step in the right direction.

[sustainable_tompkins-l] Giving is Gorges! Support the Land Trust today!

2017-05-10 Thread Edie Jodz
Support conservation, health and wellness, and education by making a
donation
to the Finger Lakes Land Trust today during Giving is
Gorges!

Every year the Land Trust hosts Story Walk which is designed to encourage
children's literacy and a love of nature by combining the two ideas into one
outdoor adventure. The walk is held at the Ellis Hollow Nature Preserve where
an environmentally-themed book's pages will be individually laminated, grouped
into small sections, and then placed along the trail for anyone to read!

The Land Trust will host a "kick off" walk in June to
introduce the book to the community. The kickoff walk will be led by Valerie
Akers, founder of Corner of the Sky preschool. Ms. Akers will guide the first
group of children and their families through the preserve, stopping along the
path to read.

Community support is needed to purchase books. Support the Land Trust
today!
