[sustainable_tompkins-l] FREE Youth Education Program! - Getting to Know Cyanobacteria - June 30th

2018-06-22 Thread Claire Weston
*Get to Know Cyanobacteria with CSI!*

Join the Community Science Institute *Saturday, June 30th from 1:00 - 2:30
PM at the Ithaca Youth Bureau* to learn more about cyanobacteria, the
source of Harmful Algal Blooms (HABS) in our lakes.

Did you know that they’ve been around much longer than our lake itself and
almost since the early days of life on Earth? Who are these curious
creatures and why are we concerned about the recent massive blooms of them
in Cayuga Lake?

We’ll take you through the basics with a couple of interactive activities
including collecting a sample from the lake and looking at it under the
microscope. We'll also try our hand at drawing and illustrating what we
find!

*Offered in collaboration with Ithaca Youth Bureau.*

*RSVPs are recommended but not required.Contact Claire Weston
