*Outreach Coordinator/Director* The Community Science Institute (CSI), a growing nonprofit environmental organization and certified water quality testing lab based in Ithaca, NY, seeks to fill an unexpectedly vacant position to maintain and grow existing programs as well as develop new opportunities for outreach around the general theme of actionable water quality data.
CSI’s mission is to foster understanding, protection and sustainable management of water resources at the local level by partnering with groups of community volunteers to monitor streams and lakes. Monitoring results, which are EPA-certified, are disseminated publicly through our free online data archive at http://database.communityscience.org. We currently partner with 35 volunteer groups comprising over 200 volunteers to monitor roughly 3,000 square miles of drainage area across the Finger Lakes and Southern Tier regions of New York. In addition to our volunteer stream monitoring partnerships, CSI serves as the largest certified testing lab in Tompkins County for drinking water. Clients include businesses and agencies as well as private homeowners. The Outreach Coordinator/Director position provides occasional administrative and educational support for CSI’s certified lab. To learn more about CSI, visit our website athttp://communityscience.org (please note: website is in the process of being upgraded, however, relevant information is accessible). *Required qualifications*: Bachelor’s degree with a major in an environmental, biological or chemical science discipline and two semesters of laboratory course work. Facility with IT, Microsoft Office especially Excel, WordPress and social media. Experience with managing science-based volunteer programs. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills. Ability to get along with others, interact cheerfully with the public, and thrive in a small team environment. Commitment to stay in position for at least two years. *Desired qualifications but not required*: Experience teaching or writing about science. Experience with fundraising and/or membership campaigns. Knowledge of GIS. *Hours, compensation and benefits*: Full-time position, 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday. Willing to consider part-time, 3-4 days/week, for highly qualified individual. Occasional evening and weekend hours, compensated by flex time. The successful applicant will be hired either as Outreach Coordinator or as Director of Outreach, depending on qualifications and experience. Starting full-time annual salary range $32,000 to $42,000. Paid major federal holidays. Ten paid free/vacation days annually, accumulate maximum of 20. Vacation up to 3 weeks/year including paid and unpaid days. Holidays and free/vacation days proportional if part-time. Health insurance available, employer pays 50% of premium.
