I would like to remind folks about polar explorer Will Steger’s presentation in Ithaca on Wed. Sept. 27, 7:00 p.m. at the First Unitarian Society, 305 N. Aurora Street (corner of Buffalo).
The presentation is titled “Eyewitness to Polar Thawing—And How It Affects Us.” Steger will share important data, stunning visuals, and compelling stories from his nearly half-century of exploring the Arctic, Antarctic, and Greenland, mostly by dogsled and kayak. He has seen up close and personally how polar ice thawing is changing the environment at the ends of the Earth — and everywhere else including right here in North America. It will be followed by a Q&A with respondents from Cornell U Institute for Climate Smart Solutions and Ithaca College’s Dept. of Environmental Studies & Sciences. Refreshments will be served. Parking is free and easy in the streets around the neighborhood. The event is free, although donations are requested to help cover costs. The building is wheelchair accessible via the Aurora Street entrance. Will Steger’s visit was spearheaded by the Interfaith Climate Action Network, which thinks of global warming as a moral/ethical issue, and cosponsored by People for a Healthy Environment, Climate Changers, the Social Action Committee of First Baptist Church, and Social Justice Committee of the UU.
