WHAT: Statewide “Day of Action” WHEN: Wednesday, October 26, 2016, 9:00-10:00 AM WHERE: Binghamton Office of Senator Schumer: 15 Henry Street, Binghamton WHY: To demand action from Senator Chuck Schumer WHO: Mothers Out Front, Citizen Action, and Binghamton Regional Sustainability Coalition in solidarity with Resist Spectra, Sane Energy Project, and allies across the state are organizing this rally. Background: * Spectra Energy’s AIM pipeline to be operational next month! * 42” gas pipeline being constructed only 105 feet from Indian Point Nuclear power plant in Westchester County NY * Two earthquake fault lines run through the area * A pipeline explosion would pose a threat to 20 million people * Thousands of New Yorkers, Governor Cuomo, Senators Schumer and Gillibrand have voiced opposition without result. * Senator Schumer can use his considerable political clout to lean on the Federal Energy Regulatory Agency (FERC) to stop this project. * Rallies are scheduled to take place at Senator Schumer’s offices in Manhattan, Rochester, Binghamton, Albany, Long Island, Buffalo, Peekskill and Washington D.C. on this “Day of Action.” Southern Tier and Finger Lakes residents will also use this opportunity to call attention to threats from local gas infrastructure projects: Seneca Lake Gas Storage, Dominion New Market Project and Dryden Pipeline.
