Author Chuck Collins uses his extensive background in inequality studies and advocacy to not only present a detailed analysis of the origins and extent of economic inequality in the United States but also to lay out a series of practical interventions that would help reverse the inequality trend, getting us one step closer to the next system in which we want to live. The report insists on the need to avoid false solutions to inequality that blame the poor, and move towards solutions that deconcentrate extreme wealth.
Collins is an authority on the topic as a senior scholar at IPS, where he directs the Program on Inequality and coedits Inequality.org. He is also the author of multiple books on inequality as well as co-founder of Wealth for the Common Good. Collins draws on this experience to provide the latest and best thinking on structural reforms that have the potential to rewire our economy for shared prosperity. Plotting a course from the most recognized and accepted policy changes to the most systemic—and potentially challenging—solutions, Collins provides us multiple points of intervention into a deeply flawed system that will continue to produce ever more inequality if we do not act.
