Hello. A friend had a similar,kind of, idea to capture electricity. He was
proposing using a large plate suspended above the ground, isolated except for a
light grounding strap. His idea was to capture a lightening strike and create a
giant capacitor. Does this sound feasible? Or would it
the capacitor would have to withstand the voltage that made an ionized track
thousands of feet long.
Lightning is best avoided I think. Perhaps you could use it to charge a
cryogenic superconductor - convert the energy to a magnetic field, a
circulating current, thus reducing the voltage
