sources, and to manufacture it synthetically I would think is difficult.
I will stand corrected with evidence, but my bet is that carotenes used
as feed additives are from natural sources.

not really, it only takes a few ppm carotene to color the oil. Even then
carotene is a hydrocarbon (C40H56), not unlike dinodiesel itself, so I
really don't think it matters.

The group from Colorado Biodiesel that went down to Bogota to build
the small plant there for Gaviotas a year or two ago said that their
feedstock was bright red palm oil, more like sludge than oil at room
temp. It made bright red biodiesel, and they also modified a ford
tractor to run the palm
