A question for all you well-washed biodiesel homebrewers...
Regardless of your particular washing methods, when all
is said and done, how much total fresh water have you
used for washing, per liter of fully washed biodiesel?
FWIW, my ratio is about 1.3 water:biodiesel. Is that
high, low,

Same with us Ken, about 1:3 water:biodiesel. Three washes, with
1/3rd water v/v biodiesel, and the washwater reused in the next
batch of biodiesel, so each batch of washwater is used three times.
I realized after sending the post that my
with a lot of minerals. Should I use snow water, or R.O. water?

I am no expert on this subject. But from my experiences (however few they may
be) I have had better luck with my water strait out of the well than with my
softened water. Although I have never had an emulsion formation due to softened
water; I have read that salt can help prevent emulsion but
determining how complete the wash would be.
I know that the outer ambient temp affects the reaction, and I have read
about how the wash water should be at room temp or at least the saem temp as
the BD being washed, but how far can these variables be and what could be
the potential problems

A warm wash (I use around 45C) is always better --
dissolves mono- and diglycerides better, holds more
NaOH, and
temp and might be a bit dificult to hold, however I understand about it
needing to be a bit on the warm side.
