Hi Keith and All ;
Very interesting thread. I have 225 ht small wood
trees that need to be cleared and composted. Will
this type of material be finished in 28 days?
Wood chippers are not available here and I am building
my own. What size should the wood chips be (I assume

It depends how you do it. It could be. It depends what you want too.

Yes I studied the web page cited and just wondered if
it could be sped up from the 18 months he states. I

Friends,
I see so many of you are interested in composting for gardens and small farms.
There is a method to expedite the decomposition called vermi-composting -- kind
of outsourcing the job to qualified worms --. Here's a local newspaper
article on that. In fact I 've read somewhere else

Certainly it can, but that suited
Lots about vermicomposting here:

It won't expedite the decomposition, not if that means speed it up.
It's not the same as composting, though I'd see the

In the 1930s and 40s, Maye Bruce developed a different way of
composting to complement the Indore composting system developed by
Sir Albert Howard and the complicated Bio-Dynamic composting
Another suggestion. If you are composting woody plants or tree
trimmings add some ammonium nitrate or urea fertilizer. The micro
organisms that break down this material take up a lot of nitrogen so if
you increase the available nitrogen you can speed up the process. Also,
if you mulch

Certainly no need to turn once a day, if ever. It needs water, yes,
but not too much water or it will go anaerobic, very difficult to
recover - that's probably the most common

chewing its cud.

Hello Robert,
I to have the same problem but I have more plant
material than animal manure to compost. I have two
springs and creeks on the property with good head
flow and have been pondering constructing
something of a grist mill to grind the corn stalks
etc prior to composting. Something
A few pints of urine will get it going!! Saw this on a nature program once
