Re: [Biofuel] cost of B100 versus Petro in the Midwest USA

2005-10-12 Thread John Short
I would like to know the company that is selling for that price I just
thought I had found a good deal @ $2.36 a gal. here in Dallas, Tx. And to
get that price it has to be by the drum.

You forgot to add the road tax and a markup for profit to the
biodiesel... Anyone who is selling biodiesel has those costs too.

OK, so my first test batch was a success! I am now thinking of scaling up,
but I need to find a cheaper supply of methanol. Any suggestions?

 Thanks,

Where can I buy a still that can produce fuel grade ethanol (190

I have read that the charles 803 is a poor still and I have no

[Biofuel] Processor

2005-09-20 Thread John Short

Hello I am new to the bio diesel experience, through this website and
others I have built a bubblewasher and a drying tank. I scavange a water
heater that I was going to use for the processor but have since heard there
maybe some problems with this type. Does anyone have any suggestions on the
processor and the pump. Would like to work with 40-50 gallon batches to start
and then later move to the 2 stage process. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

Re: [Biofuel] Processor

2005-09-20 Thread John Short
Yes I have made several small patches with nothing but success so far (just
pure dumb luck and a lot of good info) I am currently running it my Kubota
lawn tractor and its performing very well. Starts easier runs quieter and
has a significant power increase but smells like im cooking fries when
mowing. Im convienced the water heater is the wrong proccessor for my
project, thinkibg of making a cone bottom from a drum and just insulating
and coating it for corrosion.

 Hello John, welcome

Hello I am new to the bio diesel experience, through this website
and others I have built a bubble washer and a drying tank.

I think you should have a good look at this:
 http://journeytoforever.org/biodiesel_bubblewash.html
 Washing: Journey to Forever

I scavange a water heater that I was going to use for the processor
but have since heard there maybe some problems with this type. Does
anyone have any suggestions on the processor and the pump.

There's a lot of info in the archives about what's wrong with some of
those. The 1 clear water pump usually recommended isn't powerful
enough for a 50-gallon processor, for one thing, unless you're going
to process it for a long time. Best get a stronger pump.

Look at some of the plumbing schemes in the processor section at the
 Journey to Forever website:
 http://journeytoforever.org/biodiesel_processor.html
 Biodiesel processors

This is still the best water heater processor, IMHO, the original:

 The touchless processor
 http://journeytoforever.org/biodiesel_processor.html#touchfree

Would like to work with 40-50 gallon batches to start and then later
move to the 2 stage process. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you made any small-scale 1 or 2-litre test batches yet? That's
the place to start, with the process, not with the processor. Start
 here:
 Where do I start?
 http://journeytoforever.org/biodiesel_make.html#start

 Best wishes

 Keith
