Actually with a well planned outdoor kitchen in the shade of the building

you are done. The difference on the cooling bill is very extensive and if
you can use solar cooking, it is even more. I have been using this for

It occurs to me that if the outside temperature

Dear Darryl,
I seem to recall one solution to adding thermal
mass to homes in the Arizona desert.
A pit is built beneath the home and filled with
boulders --lots of mass. At night, cool air is drawn
across the boulders from the outside on its way
to the internal cooling ducts. During
Hi Tia,Rico here in Chicago. We need a little more information before we can
provide some suggestions.
First. How many tons of cooling does each unit provide? How many sq.ft.is each
floor.?Where are the bedrooms?Do you entertain a lot? How thick are the
walls?What roofing materials were used?

One of the simplest things I've done is to leave some
canned goods in the vehicle parked in the sun for warming.
Maybe one could leave it on the balcony or window facin

Thanks, these look like good ideas, and I do think that, with concommittant
behaviour modification, the sort of thing that might save me a little on cooling
costs.
I think that a lot of conservation efforts require a little effort to learn
something a new way, and in some (not all) cases they c

This is a good list for saving energy in the home.
Have you discovered the archives yet? Not the one at Yahoo, that's
virtually useless - the one linked from the end of every message you
get:

I wonder if making a point of cooking outside, no matter what the fuel type on
the grill, could help avoid uneccessarily adding heat to the house one is trying
to cool. For that matter, I wonder what grills are partly biofueled.
I know that there is a grill for sale at one place that I'm
I don't know of a good list. Steve's appropriate community list is sort of
where I'd go with some of these questions, but I'm not sure.

Hi All,
It's almost summertime, and for those of us in the Arizona desert that means
high energy bills for cooling. I am looking for a good list on how to save
energy (mainly to enquire on proper AC control.)
If any of you can shed light on my problem, it would be much appreciated:
