Hi, If I change the name of the begin function, I'll have to go through lots of code, in lots of files, and change each occurance, which I'd rather not. Anyway, It doesn't seem to be the begin function that's the problem, it works in other places and an alert at the beginning doesn't get run.

Hi Ben, You might look at GeoServer http://docs.codehaus.org/display/GEOS/Home which is a Java based OWS server similar to MapServer, but with more explicit OpenGIS conformance. GeoServer WMS provides a format="image/svg+xml" for request=GetMap. It works with a variety of datastores ArcSDE
