It's not, but I am getting spam attempted to be sent to the list and

if everyone was getting it or just me. I'm glad to say it's just me.

[SWCollect] Fw: Help me please!

2004-02-24 Thread hughfalk

Anyone know this one off the top of their head? Sounds like my type of game, but I don't recall it.

Thanks,
Obi Wan-Forwarded Message- From: Ray McAllister <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>Sent: Feb 23, 2004 6:01 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Help me please!

I have looked high and low for someone such as yourself on the internet. You are my only hope!

I am looking for an older computer game that I got to play when I was first introduced to computers. This would be around '94 or '95 and it was played on an "IBM" clone. What makes this complicated is I do not know the name of the game. All I can tell you is that it was played like a board game. There could be anywhere from two to six or eight players at most; either human or computer. Each player played in rotation, and the object of the game was to conquer the "know world".The "know world" consisted on a number of maps you could use and you had the option of playing under a number of various scenarios from mythical times, sword and sorcery, civil war, or ever world wars I II. Each player had a leader which was in command of his main army and could have special capabilities or "tool". You were also awarded secondary leaders once you had achieved a certain level of success. The object was to conquer all the other cities in the world until there was only you, your hoard, and all your cities. Then you had won. There were some other more specific details of the game:like the cities each made a specified type of "asset" which could be modified under certain conditions ($) and your leader had the ability to go around to "shines" and other special sites to gain money, attributes, or special "tools".That is about all I can remember of the game except I have never played a computer game I liked more and would love to find it.Please help me if you can, or refer me to anyone else you can think of who may be able to help me.Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,
Ray McAllister

[SWCollect] Game trinket?

2004-02-24 Thread AvatarTom
Have a couple keys on a cheap metal ring. Keys are silvery/tanished color, three circles on the top of each key. Bottom is like key that fits into one of those REALLY old locks, the kind you could push the key through the lock from the other side and drop it on the carpet, then pull under the door (hehe, must have seen that in a movie although my grandmothers house HAD those type of locks). Anyone know what game these keys go with?

Oh I am playing KQ8 right now. Played years ago, then for some reason it stopped working on my computer (new installs would not work either). Then I lost the CD. So bought another CD (still had box and docs). Am further than I was last time :)

Re: [SWCollect] Sierra/Lucas/Tolkien/Ultima/ADD/SSI - info and questions

2004-02-24 Thread Howard Feldman

Hey Jukka, glad you found this list, welcome!

 1. Did old SSI fantasy games (non-ADD) have
clue books other than Realms of Darkness?

I bought most of these new back in the 80's, and the answer is no, none
came with a clue book except Realms of Darkness. (Eternal Dagger has a
'strategy guide' that came with it..

 2. Did these SSI ADD-games have clue books:
   * Neverwinter Nights (1991)
   * War of the Lance (1989)
   * DragonStrike (1990)

Nope. These games are not amenable to clue books really since they are
action/strategy games (the last two anyways)

 4. Do you have knowledge on Sierra, Lucas and/or SSI catalogs
 or even pictures of them?
There are listing of these catalogs I know at my site with pics, too.

I have SSI catalogs from 1984 onwards - I'm not sure how many catalogs
exist prior to this, but probably only conatining their war games (which
I dont collect).

For Sierra I have a pic of an early On-Line systems catalog, date
unknown. It is just a 2-page sheet of cardboard with lots of text.
After that I have 1987 and onwards.

I also haven't seen these though I've seen the titles somewhere:
 - SSI Summer 1986
 - SSI Spring 1987
 - SSI Spring 1988
 - SSI Spring 1989

I have (pics of) the 86 and 87 ones but dont have a Spring 88 or 89 -
these probably dont exist (sinc eI have gone through a LOT of SSI games
from this era and never had one).

BTW, I noticed you had a pic of the LOTR limited edition Nazgul hologram
- any idea how rare this is? Did you pick it up somewhere or are you
the original owner? These things were expensive so I cant imagine they
sold many??

[SWCollect] Presenting the reincarnated Computer/Book RPG/Adventure Museum

2004-02-24 Thread Howard Feldman
After several months, I finally found a host for my 2 GB+ museum
website. I ended up sticking it on a buddy's computer, go figure. It
should be fine as long as I don't end up sucking too much of his
bandwidth since he has a limit. Anyhow, please update your links, for
those of you who were linked to me before, and please check it out and
let you know what you think. It is now entirely PHP/MySQL driven, and
pretty fast and bug free I think. Its new home is here:

(for reference, the old link was
http://bioinfo.mshri.on.ca/people/feldman/vgmuseum/, which can still be
reached for now at http://deep.mshri.on.ca/people/feldman/vgmuseum/)

Well in a way yes, though not official. Since it was so long ago and I was not on the net I sent to SSI when I got stuck in some of the RPGs I played. They sent me printed lists of "clues" for the games. Standard issue, not just answers to my questions. Wonder if I still have any? ;) Phantasie games for sure.

[SWCollect] CURIOUS Committee

2004-02-24 Thread Hugh Falk

Okay, this will be my last e-mail on this topic until we get
a preliminary draft done and Ill let you all know.

Here are the current people working on the guide:

Freddie = Lucasfilm games

Hugh = Epyx, EA, Avalon Hill, SSI

Marco and C.E. will be splitting Infocom.

Here are the ones Id still really like to get
help with:

- Sierra

- Ultima Tom, any interest?

- Origin (non-Ultima) Joe, any interest?

- Microprose

- Broderbund

These would cover most of the heavy-hitters. The rest
would be done on an ad-hoc basis, mostly by me.

If anyone else has interest in helping, please e-mail me
directly. We start working on it this week.

Thanks,

Hugh

Reminds me of when Mindscape used to be here in town (used to be in
Northbrook, IL). I rode there on my bicycle in 1987 when I was stuck in The
Mist and needed hints. The receptionist was surprised when she learned I just
got on my bike and rode about 7 miles to ask questions. It was my turn to be
surprised when she told me that hints to The Mist were $5. I paid, and got
two xerox'd sheets of paper with questions and answers. I still have this
somewhere and could probably dig it up if there is massive demand for it, but
I highly doubt it :) Anyway, that was the official clue book for The Mist,
and I know because I got it directly, hand to hand, from Mindscape.
