I found out when I heard Nokia starts selling 3310 again, that it does not
implement syncml anymore. I just did a quick search and found this
http://www.synthesis.ch/dl.php/1526/SyncML_Client_for_Android_en.pdf which
means synthesis finds or fights it way.

I wish I could help more.I have one Nokia 5530 XpressMusic (just checked -
it is ~40€ on ebay) that works well. It might be that older models are
cheaper and work too.

Evolution seems to work to on the phone with "scale-to-fit Evolution
on". Search for "CardDAV" on this page for documentation:
https://wiki.mobian-project.org/doku.php?id=tweaks
But maybe this solution does not use SyncEvolution.

I think Evolution is a desktop programm, and not really good for a
phone. So I think it's better to use SyncEvolution in a cronjob and to
use other programms on the phone, like gnome-calendar and gnome-contacts.

Good to hear ;-)

I've heard from somebody else he uses it on a Pinephone with Ubuntu
Touch (not sure about the name, sometimes it's also called "UBports").

I use Mobian at the moment, that uses Phosh (phone shell) what comes
from Purism and uses Gnome. It's Debian testing. I have gnome-calendar
and gnome-contacts on the phone, and I guess many phone applications
like "Call" and "Chat" also use the addressbook.

With regards,
Paul

That only works with older Evolution releases. I'm working on a new
release with support for more recent system libraries.

I've tried to install it from there on my Pinephone, but this did not
work because of dependencies from syncevolution-libs to KDE or Gnome.

I guess these dependencies need to be removed, what's not really
difficult. https://packages.debian.org/buster/syncevolution-libs

Another way could be to update the dependencies in syncevolution-libs-gnome.

I wanted to try that out, but it turns out that all of my SyncML-capable
phones are dead, i.e. I can no longer test the SyncML over OBEX code. I
already bought a cheap used one via eBay, but that also was dead. I'll
try with another one...

[SyncEvolution] New to Syncevolution

2020-09-03 Thread Paul van der Vlis
Hello Patrick and others,

Good to see there is still activity for Syncevolution!

I am new to Syncevolution and I must say I had not really heard of it
before. I thought is was a part of Evolution and I do not really like
that program.

I use Thunderbird with plugins, but I must say I do not really like that
too. Lightning takes really much memory, and the addresbook is really
bad. Cardbook is better, but then there are two adress-books.

A college told me he uses Syncevolution as a cronjob on his Pinephone to
synchronize contacts and adresses. I have tested it now on my desktop,
and I must say I like it! I also have a Pinephone.
https://store.pine64.org/product/pinephone-community-edition-postmarketos-limited-edition-linux-smartphone/

My college uses Nextcloud as server, and UBports on the phone:
https://ubports.com/

I use Sogo on the server side, and Mobian on the phone:
https://mobian-project.org/
https://sogo.nu/

But, Syncevolution is removed from Debian, Mobian is Debian testing
based. But it's still on https://snapshots.debian.org :
https://snapshot.debian.org/package/syncevolution/1.5.3-2/

I think it's a good idea to remove some parts from Syncevolution. Maybe
they can be added later again.

With regards,
Paul
