The Dallas Morning News did a pretty inspirational story on a high school
kid who lost part of his leg playing football. He now runs track and turned
in a 14-flat 100 meters.

One year I went on a 450-mile (one way) trip with a team to play a district
basketball game. The school they were playing against had trips of 400, 450,
and 320 miles that winter. Teams would play Saturday afternoon games, then
arrive back at 4 in the morning.

As a sports editor for a paper affiliated with the Associated Press, I had a

I'd like to see a running pentathlon: 100, 400, 800, 1,500, 5,000 with a

A few years ago this local high school kid ran a strong leg on a sub-41
sprint relay and was a pretty good cross country runner (16:40 or so for
5,000 meters). He

CHICAGO (AP) - New York and San Francisco were selected Tuesday as the U.S.
finalists to host the 2012 Summer Olympics, while Houston and Washington,
D.C., were eliminated as contenders.
The USOC's board of directors will pick the U.S. candidate for the 2012
San Fran and NY. The only way the US will get the Games is if there is a
sympathy vote for New York. It's just not the U.S.'s turn in 2012. Plus,
fairly or not, the Atlanta Games were considered a debacle and the Salt Lake
Games were tainted by scandal, and right now the U.S. just isn't really

I was wondering during the Euro championships why Israel was part of Europe.
Geographically it's in Asia and Jordan plays in the Asian soccer
confederation. Is this just because the Middle Eastern countries and Israel
don't want to compete against each other for security and political
concerns?
