Hall and Ritz have proven in head to head competition that they deserve to
compete at this level. Don't get tied up in times and qualifying marks. This
kind of thinking is what is wrong with ncaa t&f today.
Back in 1968, they wouldn't let Bob Schul run the trials when he was
defending Olympic champ in the 5000. He was a few seconds of the trials
standard, but fit and racing well. I believe Billy Mills was in a similar
situation in 1968.
