vault is truly a brand new event for women, even more so than the 400

SIKESTON, Mo. (AP) -- Ben Plucknett, one of the great American discus
throwers who twice held the world record in the 1980s, died at his home of
a brain aneurysm. He was 48.

I'm not objecting so much to comparing performances (I do the same for
comparing XC races on the courses around Northern California in the USATF
circuit), but rather the emphasis that is put on the comparisons as having
sufficient precision to make valid judgements. I think the precision is
by each distance runner. That
difference is why applying a single adjustment factor to a multitude of
sprinters is inappropriate. The adjustment factor in fact will vary with
each individual.

Webb's failure to dominate collegiate competition this year indicates its
premature for him to be thinking the big thoughts yet about the 1500. I
would have liked to see him wait until next year when he might have run
