I also found the article interesting. As a former coach of Akins I detected
minor errors referring to him (the article spells his name Atkins). I don't
think he ever weighed more than 305 lbs. at his best and usually 290-300.
His vertical was at least 32. I think we measured 33 once.

It isn't so surprising in view of the fact that there have been two major
changes in shot technique during that period--to O'Brien and then to the
spin. I seem to recall that long jump with a flip looked like a mechanical
improvement before it was banned.

What other technical advancements have there been over the last 100
years?:
Sprints: use of blocks, speakers (gun) behind blocks
Shot: spin technique
Long Jump: hitch kick

My wife nursed our son for 2 1/2 years. She found that it took a fair
amount of energy. She was also active in the local LLL activities and I
strongly support breast feeding.
Also there is substantial difference between vigorous exercise, which can

They shouldn't be. In HS, Steve became the first NJ runner to win

My recollection of it was extremely vague, but I was able to find an
interesting article on line that gives the credit to Dave Nielsen, head

than what is
actually known.
