Thanks for the hint, I will try downgrading bash on the Ubuntu build server, it currently has bash v4.3.48 and T2 wants v4.2-053.

If that doesn't work, I will be back asking for more hints about wrapper 
debugging.

Ok, using bash 4.2-053 lets glibc build without any mods needed in glibc.conf.

glibc32 is still failing, but is now failing at the end, during the link. I will look into that a bit, and be back with more questions if not solved.

Once that I removed some other experimental changes, and did a clean build, glibc32 is now building with the origonal T2 conf script.

I am getting other minor errors from a few later packages, but so far no show 
stoppers.
