Ah, that's one of my edits, but looking at it again I think I tagged it
incorrectly. I contradict my own advice: This relation does not
describe the waterway, it describes a route a boat could take.
Similarly, no route info should be on the way: As the oneway refers to
the route taken by a
Is it really necessary for a way that is tagged waterway=stream to also be
tagged oneway=1? Isn't this implied?
Please see this example:

note it appears that after I originally entered the way its direction was
reversed (i.e. it now flows uphill).

oneway indicates that traffic is restricted from traveling the other
direction. I suppose this might happen in a busy canal system, but on

The oneway tag doesn't indicate the flow direction but is a restriction
that applies to boat or ship traffic on the waterway. Thus if it is

The waterway in question is far too small for any traffic, even canoes or
kayaks would find it impossible to move as it is very narrow.

Paul,
Thank you. In reality (based upon first hand knowledge of the area and the
USGS Topo) the water flows north. I will reverse the way (and similarly
impacted ways) and remove the oneway=1 tag.

Have a look at this Overpass turbo query: http://overpass-turbo.eu/s/ag9.
A nice example is this one:

Hi,
without looking up anything on the wiki, I would spontaneously say that
oneway on a waterway indicates the direction of traffic on that waterway. I
expect to see canals with oneway tags on the map. I have already
encountered oneway waterways myself, albeit before OSM existed.

What happens if the direction of the traffic is different to the
direction of flow? Thinking of bridges with central supports.
