Re: [Tagging] Ambiguous surface=wood
I'd say it's very rare that wood could be interpreted as possibly meaning woodchip. Woodchip has very different material properties, and different affordances for travellers. A little bit like saying wood might mean sawdust ;) surface=woodchip is used more often than surface=woodchips, though neither of them is used very much at the moment: taginfo.openstreetmap.org/compare/surface=woodchip/surface=woodchips I would advocate surface=woodchip (singular), and preserve the existing meaning of surface=wood as planks. Maybe we should document surface=woodchip? Just my 2p Dan 2014-08-22 6:53 GMT+01:00 Mateusz Konieczny matkoni...@gmail.com: I discovered* that surface=wood is ambiguous and may mean two very different things: 1) paths with wood chips 2) paths paved with wooden planks (for example https://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plik:Bernatek_foot-bridge_%28Love_padlocks%29,_Krakow,_Poland.jpg ) I want to tag in way that would be clear, now I consider using for the second situation [surface=wood; wood=planks] or [surface=planks] and [surface=wood; wood=chips] or [surface=woodchips] for the first one. Currently wiki mentions only situation (2). *http://forum.openstreetmap.org/viewtopic.php?pid=444548#p444548 ___ Tagging mailing list Tagging@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/tagging ___ Tagging mailing list Tagging@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/tagging

Keep surface=wood with the meaning planks. It's used very frequently (typically for bridges) Add surface=woodchip(s) On 22 August 2014 09:22, Andy Mabbett a...@pigsonthewing.org.uk wrote: I'd suggest surface=timber surface= woodchip On Aug 22, 2014 6:53 AM, Mateusz Konieczny matkoni...@gmail.com wrote: I discovered* that surface=wood is ambiguous and may mean two very different things: 1) paths with wood chips 2) paths paved with wooden planks (for example https://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plik:Bernatek_foot-bridge_%28Love_padlocks%29,_Krakow,_Poland.jpg ) I want to tag in way that would be clear, now I consider using for the second situation [surface=wood; wood=planks] or [surface=planks] and [surface=wood; wood=chips] or [surface=woodchips] for the first one. [Tagging] Fwd: Information board details in bus stops
I forward my question here because I think my first attempt was done on the wrong list (tran...@openstreetmap.org) : Hi, How would you tag an information board in a bus stop and mainly, if there is a timetable, map, etc. This picture on twitter suggests new tags: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BvUsqMEIMAA3VRf.jpg information:name, information:map, information:timetable I didn't find an existing wiki proposal for such details. My question is about the information board/boards at bus stops which someone tries to tag in details in his French city (think about disabilities). Accidentally, on the transit list, the tag strip=yes was also questionned (check the picture). I guess it's about the road markings on the road itself where the bus actually stops (but not sure, it's maybe also something for blinds). Someone on the other list suggested to replace it by road_markings=yes. Any other suggestions about this and the information boards ?
