Re: [Tagging] Mechanical edit - Voting - Musical instrument (reminder)
2013/12/9 Matthijs Melissen i...@matthijsmelissen.nl Just to keep you up-to-date: the data working group has not responded yet to my request for approval of this mechanical edit. They have not indicated a time span they need to decide, or even acknowledged receipt, so at this moment, I cannot give any further information on whether or when the mechanical edit will happen. It sounds strange to me that the DWG would approve an edit beforehand. Usually it is the community to approve such actions (if they are possible at all). Where did you get the idea from that DWG should or would approve a mechanical edit? cheers, Martin ___ Tagging mailing list Tagging@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/tagging

Matthijs says it quite clearly in his proposal page: Although not a formal requirement either, I have asked the Data Working Group for permission before carrying out this edit. (You may be right that it's odd to get the DWG explicitly involved in such pre-approval, and they might not want to set that precedent... but I guess the DWG will have more to say about that than me...) The edit has been approved by the community (at least on this list), and I would expect that the DWG does not take actions that go against the wish of the community, but still I think it would be better to obtain explicit permission. Especially given the fact that there are not much precedents for this type of mechanical edit, I think it is best to tread lightly. Technically, the DWG only has the power to roll back mechanical edits, not to approve them in advance. However, I think potential disapproval in advance would be preferable over an edit followed by a roll-back, which would only create additional workload and frustration on both sides. Of course, the DWG might not have enough time to look into it (which is quite understandable given that the DWG is run by volunteers and already has a rather high workload), or the DWG might not consider themselves qualified to answer this question. At this point, I have unfortunately no way to tell if either of these reasons apply. Re: [Tagging] Mechanical edit - Voting - Musical instrument (reminder)
Hi Nonours, Yes, that's all, thanks for voting. I was talking about the description field of the changeset, not of the individual nodes. The field 'description' is the standard field you fill in when describing a changeset. I think there is no need to place a comment at all individual notes of the changeset in this case. -- Matthijs On 10 November 2013 19:48, nounours kuessemondtaegl...@gmail.com wrote: Dear Matthijs, I just changed your page to vote - is that all I have to do?
