Why not comply and install VPN? I face the same issue at my company,
and that's how I work from home. Fortunately, they allow VM.

recommendation for him to all). Told him it didn't get to POST no

Well, the first thing I did was take Lennart's advice, because it's
always good. I got a NIC with an intel chipset and installed it. No
difference.
Tried a different switch port, no difference. Switched up to Cat 6
cable, no difference.
Ethtool says the new card is running at 1000Mb/s.
