This may not be a solution, or one you wee searching for, but there's a
chance that the CZUR scanners are USB video devices. They might appear
as a video camera to Linux. But you probably won't get the nice
front-end that way. Worse still, I don't know of any v4l2 back-ends for
SANE, so dealing with scans will be a lot of full-frame page images.

There's one report of using a CZUR scanner with Linux:
http://www.johnwillis.com/2016/04/czur-scannerscanning-with-linux.html
but it was from some years ago

Thanks, Hugh, for fixing!

I thought that the list might've been having a nice summer off, which it
definitely deserves.

Hugh,

What kind of scanner are you using? My Epson Perfection V350 and V550 are
supported on GNU/Linux by Epson, although they have replaced iscan, which I
really liked. Now, I need to learn epsonscan2. The program simple-scan does
multi-page scans off my Epson printer. I have seen Hewlett Packard
printer/scanners work fine under Linux.

I just did a quick test using W10 in Boxes on Fedora with my Canon
printer/scanner connected. In Boxes Preferences/Devices & Shares/USB
Devices, I enabled the printer. Then I scanned into IrfanView. Some
weekend I'll give this a try with my 18x12 scanner which has been
unsupported for a number of years.

Thanks, Stewart, for asking.

I don't know what was wrong. I did updates and rebooted and it seems to
work.

[GTALUG] scanner under Windows under Linux?

2022-08-02 Thread D. Hugh Redelmeier via talk
This message is also a test of the list.

CZUR makes interesting page scanners:
We actually have a couple.

Until recently, all of their scanners' software only runs under Windows.
The latest one has support for Linux but is very expensive.

Can I easily run Window under Linux in a way that would drive these
scanners? I think that the Windows system would need control of the USB
port to which the scanner is connected.

I seem to remember that long ago Sun/Oracle Virtual Box was the only
VM that gave decent USB access to a virtual Windows. I don't know the
state of the art now.

Answering some of my questions (but not USB):
