Just a note, Paul. I use Dreamweaver to upload all my files and have never had
a problem at 1and1. The upload is immediate, the upload feature also updates
all my images, and I can switch to the browser to display my file/changes.
Just one more use for Dreamweaver. :)

I like to thank everybody for the suggestions.
As suggested I checked for hidden binary characters everything checked out
OK.
The solution to the problem is to use
BINARY together with FTP PORT 21 or 22 (if one port does not work, try the
other)
