Marc, Project is certainly the powerhouse, but many of us in the practice use Excel. You don't have the ease of showing critical path and Gantt charts that you do in Project, but Excel is quite a good tool nonetheless. One reason many of us at my company use it is that it's easy to share project workbooks with others on our teams and they need not have any special software to view it. Our technology team is moving to putting their plans straight onto SharePoint, building SharePoint pages that display the various risk logs, task plans and so on as tables or lists. I am still pretty new to SharePoint and find it currently overly verbose, so I can't speak yet to how adaptable that would be.
