You are welcome. This is not the best way to figure out your computer,
but it does talk about things that we never knew about before.

the only part of the start menu I really use is the edit box. The rest

That's why I still have my old desktop running win xp. I guess that's
enough of that, smile. Thanks again.

RE: getting start up and shut down sounds to work in win10

2018-01-06 Thread steve.jacobson--- via Talk
Perhaps this has changed, but it is also my understanding that one has to
turn "fast boot" off in Windows 10 to hear the startup sound. If that
feature is on, the boot process seems to skip the startup sound. This
option is in settings, but I was not able to find it just now when I looked.
I know it is buried pretty deep, but Googling it helped me find it in the
past. . . I also could not find a shutdown sound any more.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson

Control panel, Sound, sounds.
Tab past the individual lists and there's a checkbox for the startup
sound. I don't know if there's a shutdown sound. I don't use them and
just ran quickly through and didn't see one.

Tom

RE: Connecting to two different WIFI networks on windows 10 laptop

2018-01-06 Thread Rod Hutton via Talk
Hi,

If you know the computer name of the machine you want to access, just type the
name, preceded by two backslashes, in the address bar of an explorer window,
and the available shared folders on that machine will appear in the window.

Best,

Rod

One network is configure to use a fixed ip address, the other network is
configured to automatically assign a ip address. How can I connect with one of
these networks without having going into the adaptor option setting when I want
to connect to one of these networks?
