 of the Chrome Window.
I have it checked.
Now, there are two radio buttons, and I chose the one to enter with a custom
web address.
Search Heading:
We are at another heading, where you can set your search Engine.
There is a combo box below, and I set it to Chrome, because I like to have
my searches from the address bar done with Crome instead of Bing.
Next heading:
Default Browser.
Here, you can choose weather you want Chrome to be your default browser or
not.
Just leave this alone if you do not want Chrome to be your default browser.
Next Important heading:
On Start up.
Here is where you put in your URL that you want to show as soon as you start
Chrome.
There are three radio buttons to pick from, but I chose to open with a
specific page or pages, which is the third radio button.
Under this, you can type in the URL of the web site that you want to open
when you start Chrome.
Under this, there is a link where you can add more pages you want to show
when Chrome starts up.
Now, we are up to the search engin heading.
This is a heading.
There are headings on this settings page.
I chose to use Google search engin in the address bar. This is a combo box.
The next heading, is on start up.
Finally, here is where you set up your home page.
There are three radio buttons here.
I chose the third one, to open a selected page or selected pages.
Next, I was able to enter:
www.Google.Com.
That is my home page that will open each time I start Chrome.
Next important group of settings, the advanced settings.
Now, you have to press enter on the advanced settings button before more
headings of settings will show.
The Advanced settings are collapsed, so you have to press enter to show more
headings of settings.
Now that these advanced settings are open, we get to the next heading of
settings.
There is much more we can customize under the advanced settings.
Privacy and security heading:
Down arrow from here, and you hear:
Use a web service to resolve navigation errors.
You have a clickable, and a toggle.
Press spacebar to toggle this on or off.
Again, ignore the clickables.
Now you have:
Use a prodiction service to enable you in searches.
I left this unchecked.
Next, you have a setting to speed up the loading of web pages:
I checked this with spacebar.
The next three settings I just left alone.
I checked the one that says:
Use a web service to help with spelling.
I leave manage certificates alone.
Next, you have content settings, but this is not a new heading.
We are still working with the same heading.
The only thing of interest here, is the clear history button.
This was available in the virtical menu, so don't worry about this.
Now, we get to the next heading of settings.
Passwords and forms:
Under this heading, just make sure that you check to be able to have Chrome
save passwords.
Languages Heading:
I did nothing with this.
Downloads heading:
This is where you choose where you want your downloads to be saved on your
computer.
Printing heading:
I did nothing with this.
Accessibility heading:
I did nothing with this.
Now, we have the System heading:
Down arrow, and you hear:
Continue running background apps, when Google Chrome is Closed.
I have this unchecked.
Next,
Use hard ware excelloration when Available.
I have this checked.
Next, you hear:
Open proxy settings button.
I left this alone.
Last Heading LOL!
Reset.
Here, you can reset all settings back to their origional.
We are done with Settings.
Now, just press CTRL+F4 to get back to the Freedom Scientific Web site.
This settings web page, opens in another tab.
That is it for settings.
Notice, we made a lot of changes under the advanced settings. You cannot see
these, unless you press enter to expand these.
Now, press the Alt key again. Up arrow once to get to the end of the menu
where we were with the settings.
You see exit, up arrow and you see the help sub menu, right under the
settings choice.
I press right arrow on this help sub menu, and you can enter on the help
center to get a lot of help using Chrome.
To open a web site, just press CTRL+L or Alt+D and type the URL.
Chrome for me, is so much quicker with web sites that involve streamming TV
and Watching movies, and so on.
For me, Chrome opens large news sites very quickly compared to IE.
Lastly, All JAWS and NVDA navigation key commands work in Chrome. For
example, you can press F7 to open a list of links with JAWS, and the
elements list with NVDA. All of that is the exact same.
This is the end of the tutorial.

PDF documents, or any other file formats on your computer, are electronically
stored information.

Cameras cannot read electronic documents. They are such constructed, they need
to "see" things in real, before they can do anything.

All electronic formats, be it music, video, documents or just any
blah-blah-blah, will have to be processed internally in the computer.

To best illustrate things, may I suggest you think of the camera as the "eye"
of the computer. Let's at the same time, tell the scanner to be the other "eye"
of the PC. The CPU, (or processor), the RAM and any other electronic inside
your computer's physical box - well, let's name it the brain. Even so, the hard
disk or SSD, which we will compare to your "deep memory".

As you well know, your physical eyes cannot "look" inside the brain, and
perform anything from within your body. Rather, the eyes can feed the brain
with information, which your brain now can process.

Back to your query. You will need a camera to feed any written or physically
visible information into the computer. Whatever has already been fed into the
computer, like an electronically stored document, will be non-interesting for
the camera, scanner or any further feeding equipment. All processing of what
you have in your brain, will be done by the brain directly. All information
already stored on your computer, will be processed directly by the computer,
and loaded software.

I know, you wanted a quick answer to your question. I just thought it might be
helpful for you and others, to have a clarified comprehension of why the answer
is the way it stands.

To jhust elaborate a tiny bit here, let me in very short terms tell you how any
OCR software works.

First of all, it needs to retrieve some information. It will typically leave
you the chance of defining whether it should grab some electronic document, or
if it should contact an external piece of equipment - like a camera or a
scanner. To the software, it basically does not matter whichever way you feed
it with information.

Next, it will start to process the information it has loaded into its memory.
All such electronic information is made up of 0's and 1's, also known as
pixels. And the software will compare the layout of these, with an internal
dictionary. The dictionary will be like a tremendous collection of stencils. If
the OCR finds that a set of dots (or pixels) in the received information
matches any stencil in the dictionary, it will know what character this will
represent. It now will "type" this character into a virtual document, thereby
imitating you pressing a key on the keyboard.

For your information, in old times, the stencil-lookup was pretty much a
one-to-one comparison. That means, it would need a match that would be very
close to the exact stenciled shape. If it was to recognize anything to be the
letter O, it would need a set of pixels in a perfect circle.

Modern OCR software has become far mor "inteligent", whatever we want to talk
about inteligence when comes to silly electronic units like a computer. The
inteligence is that the OCR no longer will depend on close to exact matches. To
a very high degree, it might "look" at the properties of a scanned character,
and base its recognition on the results thereof. For instance, it would
conclude that a set of pixels that resemble two parallel vertical lines,
slightly spaced from each other, with a horizontal

I read something that indicated that it is numpad insert plus the numpad
page down key, but for me, that only reads the status if I am in something

In Thunderbird, I always used it to see how many emails were not yet read.
In Jaws, it does not say anything. I might be missing something, i.e.,
maybe it should be set as the default for all programs or something.

Yeas, I also had ScreenTalk before Window Eyes and I believe I used an Echo
synthesizer with it.

Best Regards,

Bob Hicks

Hi, Drew. While I believe we should not spend much more time on list for
this, I bought my first home computer frojm Computer Aids Corporation in
1989. It had ScreenTalk installed on it. I have used Vocal-Eyes and
Window-Eyes ever since.

Just reply to my inbox, and I'll attach the file to an email for you. It is
definitely small enough.
