Just a personal note, in which I acknowledge to you the dignity with
which

you've handled the last few months.

I am genuinely sorry that Window-Eyes is no longer a work in progress.
It is true that I've been at the forefront of the criticism tossed at VFO

But I can say in all honesty that as I think the first person to benefit

phase.

So again: a personal thanks for how you've been a positive influence

All the very best to you and the family for what is yet to come.

no more competition between Magic and ZoomText, ETC. At least not in the

have a bad taste in their mouth because they are remembering the name
Freedom Scientific and what the company has done under certain leadership.
That doesn't make Jaws a bad product. That's like when Coke changed their

it. Some will still remember that bad experience and still think of Coke
that way even though ti's been different for a very long time.

Instead of speculating, how about we wait and see what happens. This

2017-04-04 Thread Brian Moore via Talk
Hi Jim. the really big thing was really frequent silence when web
browsers would get stuck. This also happened a lot with outlook which I
am forced to use at work.

We had the best calendar interface I have still ever seen for outlook,
particularly when you work in a large org like I do and need to use it
frequently but when I closed outlook, it would often go silent and I
would have to fire up nvda to recover. Also, the lack of mouse key
review in windows 8.1 and 10 made screen review things quite difficult.

I downloaded the free version of 9.5.4 since my licensed copy is only
9.1 and it does seem a little better. I would probably pay the 50 bucks
to upgrade it but not when I have to wait for some dealer to buy it, put
a mark up on it and then allow me to download it at some later date.
Used to be able to order online or call up gwmicro and they would take
my credit card number on the phone and we would be good but no longer.

I used to work at a local dealer and was their we expert and pushed it
whenever I could but it doesn't seem quite as good to me anymore.

Brian.

Hi all.

List member comments regarding VFO support once again raise the question
as to the future of Window-Eyes. For those who do not like this thred -
hit delete "now."

But for me - the burning question for sometime has been the absence of
critical, informed insider comment. We are in need of an informed
adaptive technology press, which by way of blog posts, interviews with
leaders and knowledgeable opinion expression, shed light on what is
happening in this access technology market place.

I have not seen evidence of anyone running an in-depth interview with
the executives of VFO. Neither have I seen inciteful comment on VFO's
behaviours in areas such as customer relationships, product research and
development, and the appropriateness of private equity funding of access
technology.

Based solely on the evidence i've gleaned from personal observation and
the comments of fellow list members - VFO has no intention of
rejuvenating Window-eyes. If the intentions were different, the"other
software" option that people have referred to when talking about
telephone support would say "Window-Eyes. VFO has not contacted me as a
payed license holder to let me know of new offers and fancy tricks to
have me spend more money. FS Podcasts are for the purposes of FS -
not VFO.

Oh well: time to put on the armour against the flaming I might get.

Re: VFO acquisition of Ai Squared

2016-06-14 Thread Brian Moore via Talk

If he had, I would not be mentioning it on this list.

While this might be true, there are two things.

1. it is far too new to speculate on this. The product structures,
pricing changes if any etc have not been established yet. While my
personal view is that from a consumer perspective, it has lots of
potential not to turn out well, that counts for nothing and we don't
have any facts yet to support an anti-trust speculation.

2. This is such a small industry, I doubt such a small market share
company would attract the attention of regulators.

Hi Doug:
Have you been contacted about anti-trust considerations?
Seems like with only the JAWS company ownership owning both Jaws and
WindowEyes there are not any other major competitiors out there and thus
this combination would be anti-competitive in nature.
I don't know if that applies to the current combination but has it been
bought up in discussions?

Subject: VFO acquisition of Ai Squared

Hello everyone,

I wanted to chime in here and give my personal thoughts to the bombshell
released today regarding VFO (the parent company of Freedom Scientific
and Optelec) acquiring Ai Squared. And by bombshell, I don't mean a bad
thing, I just mean it is shocking and unexpected news.

I know this may seem scary to many people. I know that we have a great
number of extremely loyal customers who may be feeling betrayed. There
are lots of legit concerns and questions that I'm sure come to
everyone's minds. But honestly, nobody knows the answers at this
point. We are just starting the discussions internally of how best to
take all our new resources, talent, products, etc. and meld them
together to give the best customer experience. For the next 6 months or
so, it will be business as usual. After the 6 months, who knows at this
point but I can guarantee the customers will benefit from the results.
Nobody will be abandoned or taken advantage of, etc. I'm very impressed
with John Blake (CEO of VFO). I truly believe John is in this for the
customer.

Personally, I'm extremely excited with the possibilities. Think about
it, we now have all the best minds in this industry under one roof.
Instead of us duplicating resources, we can combine them and inovate.
Although Freedom has been our number one competitor since Dan and I
started GW Micro in 1990, I've always had great respect for their
engineers. Okay, I've had questions about their corporate leadership, a
certain lawsuit comes to mind (smile), but that was a completely
different leadership team. That was a different owner and a different
CEO. Vector has an outstanding reputation. John Blake has shown great
leadership and concern for the customer. Under this new leadership and
available resources, I'm ready to take that and do whatever it takes to
have the best possible solutions for our customers, for every low vision
and blind person out there.

People may be concerned about lack of competition causing innovation and
quality to suffer. Nothing can be further from the truth. There is
still plenty of competition out there, including free options but we
have the determination and drive, starting at the corporate level all
they way down to provide the best quality products, hands down. Yes,
this will take some time to prove but I'm hoping that everyone out there
will give us that opportunity. Again, I'm putting everything I have into
this venture and I wouldn't do that if I didn't believe in it.

Regards,
Doug

Hi. no, when its scan is complete, it just returns to the main screen
unless it finds something and then you get a "clean pc" button with a
details tab. if you got nothing, this is a good sign.

HI. you can also press the application key on a message and move it
back to inbox or wherever you like as well as take a bunch of other
actions on it.

Just shift-tab once and either hit T or better still go down the list

hit enter.
