One way to reduce the RAM usage is via a bounding box filter (--bbox in

I I/O load hits my server pretty hard. Trying to do anything else while
that's happening is quite painful. :-/
Doing it without the heavy I/O load is preferable, even if it takes a
couple of days - it can just trundle away in the backg

Hi all,
There is already a page in the wiki for trails
(http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/index.php/Mapping/Features/Trail), but this
is really just tagging a way with permitted usage (such as footpath,
cyclepath, etc.).
Is there any way of marking a 'trail', where a marked route which may

Cloud Made would like to sponsor mapping and coding in OSM. We'd like

I've formally written up my Bridge proposal, as mentioned here a week or
two ago:

In summary, I propose replacing the various bridge and bridge-related tags:

highway=viaduct
railway=viaduct

I'm not sure how that would work - you really need the contours data set
to be the bottom layer, with the normal layers on top of that (is it
possible to ask OpenLayers to render the

Hi,
i'm writing to let you know about 2 milestones in italy:
1. Yesterday (sunday 16th) one of the major italian newspapers, La
Stampa based in Turin, published a 1 page article about OpenStreetMap.

Hi,
I seem to be having some problems with a OSMXAPI request that has worked
perfectly in the past. In particular, a bunch of extra nodes seem to be
collected that are not within the bounding box I specified in the url.
I'm using the following command to download the xml file:
wget -O greater-br

Volume 41 of the Society of Cartographers Bulletin arrived by post on
Friday, and mighty fine it looks too, with it's enhanced colour section.
OSM is particularly well represented in this issue too.
Main articles include:

Yes I am behind a proxy on the university network, but:
a) It has worked fine in the past (sometime between the 5th and the 13th
March) and I haven't left the proxy.
b) where do I even tell JOSM to use the proxy?
Thanks,

Hi everyone,
As a result of the OpenExpo in Bern I started to contribute to the
project. Thank you guys, for attending at the fair.
In the wiki I saw, that there are people wich are using a Nokia 9500
(Communicator) while doing some work for the project.
Those I'd like to ask:
How do you use the
Living_street will render with additional style added last night for the mapnik

May take a while to filter through with re-rendering process.

Contours layer presented by openpistemap is simply great. Does it
exist a server publishing only this layer?
I'm working on Viking, a desktop GPS data editor capable of rendering
data on top of image downloaded on line. Having a contours layer would
be usefull to prepare hicking.
Thanks in advanc
Here's a challenge for those with some time?? Checking and simplifying (to
the extent possible) the instructions for JOSM and Potlatch. The videos that
have been done previously are great but probably now somewhat out of date?
Steve did some great ones recently too, but again perhaps they didn't co

Are you behind a proxy?
If yes, you have to tell JAVA to use it.
