that in some regions OSM is much weaker than in others. Two months
later, do we have any indication that the 1+ million Strava users are
helping fill the gap?

It is likely that Google map is worse than OSM map, but it can not be
true for aerial view as OSM is not providing

The best they could do IMHO would be to partner with Mapillary and invite
Strava users to contribute with it, like they do with us.
