Re: [OSM-talk-be] Need help for a mapathon campus géo - 16th April 2016

The National Missing Maps Mapathon at the Belgian universities is coming
along nicely. There's a page up about the event [1].

Most of the events have at least one dedicated volunteer by now. This is
our chance to start building communities at these universities and tell
them about how the Missing Maps is part of the OSM community.

There are three universities still without a volunteer: the VUB [2], ULB
[3] and UCL [4]. And we have two volunteers left (Jorieke and myself), but
both Dutch speakers. So to the French speaking OSM people out there: we
need you!

All the events could use some more volunteers, to walk around and help
people map. Have a look at the Belgian Meetup page to find a university
near you [5].

Hi Joost,

I'm ready to contribute to this missing map event. I subcribed to the event in
Namur. I might be there all day if needed. I'll check the hackpad from time to
time to see where I can help. I already presented OSM a few times, so I can
make a presentation if needed.

Cheers,

Yes, it might be worth considering. I'm hoping we can find someone to speak
at all the different locations. It would be nice to have Pete Masters talk
to us through digital channels though.
I don't think a remote presentation would have quite the same impact as a
local one. But it might be useful to have an open line with all the other
events.Though in practice maybe IRC will work better - and not be as
sensitive to bandwidth issues.

2016-03-01 Thread Jo
I'm wondering if it would make sense to set up a video link between all
these locations. At KU Leuven we use Lync (Skype for Business) for this,
it's easy to set up a conference call with that. I'm not entirely sure
about the usefulness though. Except if speakers who want to address
everyone can obviously only be at one of the locations.

Hi,

We have a nice conversation with them going now *. This is going to be
pretty big: six universities in the three regions, all working on
OpenStreetMap. We might have some press attention, and it's a great
opportunity to grow our community in five different cities.

We're going to need a lot of volunteers: there are six events, all at the
same time, and there should be at least one mapper at every event.
If you want to help out, please register here:

In the ideal case, that mapper is willing to give an introduction about
OpenStreetMap, the Missing Maps and get people started mapping in iD. You
do not have to be an expert, but of course it would be easy if you have a
bit of African mapping experience. You can make your own presentation if
you want to, but we're co-creating all the material you need.
If you don't like to do presentations, maybe you can just help new mappers,
stuck when choosing between tertiary road and track.

Or you could help in the preparation of the documentation and
presentations. Here's an overview of the tasks, includes some translation
work.

[OSM-talk-be] Need help for a mapathon campus géo - 16th April 2016

2016-02-23 Thread Julien Fastré
Hi,

== French message below ==

The Subcommittee Cartography and GIS of the Belgian National Committee
of Geography (I did not know that this entity is existing) is planning a
'missing maps' event at all Belgian universities willing to participate
which, at the same time, should be a communication event in the
framework of the International Map Year [1].

This event will take place on the 16th April.

They are requesting some help from contributors, on the technical aspect
(editing with iD, JOSM, explaining what is OSM, ...).

The event should take place (as I understood) in Louvain-La-Neuve (UCL)
and Brussels (ULB/VUB), and in Gent (UGent) [2].

(I am not able to give some help this day).

If you would like to give some help, could you make a contact with
Eléonor Wolff at ewo...@ulb.ac.be ?

Thanks for them !!

=== Message en français ===

Bonjour,

l'adresse suivante : ewo...@ulb.ac.be ?

Merci pour eux!

Julien
