Hi All, Thanks for those that have helped so far. I am now in contact with a OSM sys admin to get these maps up on a tile server (for subsequent use in the OSM editors). Out of interest, OSM servers are able to create tiles on the fly as long as it is provided a raster image that is geocoded.

Tom The TfL bus maps may not be usable but the timetable data on which they are based are available at traveline.info/tnds under the Open Government Licence. Is that ODBL-compatible or am I missing your point? A note of caution however. This week's edition of the London data includes

The answer is it isn't really done ;-) As far as I can tell Commons currently has no documented way of embedding anything other than a single coordinate pair for an image, which is obviously okay for photos but pretty unhelpful for maps (or indeed aerial/satellite imagery). This is a pity, as
