Hi,

In case anyone might be interested I just thought I'd announce an initial
version of "OpenTrail", which aims to become an Android OSM app for walkers and
hikers. At the moment it's pretty basic, but I thought I'd announce it now in
case anyone's interested in either the project or in contributing code.

OpenTrail, available at
http://www.free-map.org.uk/downloads/android/opentrail.apk or via SVN via
svn://free-map.org.uk/svn/freemap, currently shows slippy maps from the
following sources:
* Freemap
* OS NPE
* OS 7th Edition
* OS First Series
* OSM Cyclemap
using the osmdroid library (same library as is used in AndNav). You can also
contribute annotations to Freemap.

What I'm particularly wanting to focus on with OpenTrail is to experiment with
augmented reality and try out overlaying OSM data on the feed from the phone's
camera, with a view to in the field navigation; thus OpenTrail extends the
OpenTrailView idea (hence the similar name). Because my interest in mobile
development has now shifted to Android, OpenTrail also replaces a couple of
earlier projects I was working on, the Java ME "FreemapMobile" and footnav
(OpenGL viewer which was originally aiming to run in a Nokia/Qt environment).

Only tested on a HTC Hero running Android 2.1 but let me know of any problems.
If you're interested in the project, updates will be posted on the blog
http://www.free-map.org.uk/wordpress/.

Nick
