[Talk-GB] OSM AGM and notification

2018-04-15 Thread Rob Nickerson
Hi all,

Just a reminder that the event items on the wiki (and therefore in
WeeklyOSM) can be updated by anyone:

https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Current_events#How_to_update_the_calendar

The AGM details have been shared to members and via our email newsletter:

   - Federation House, 2 Federation Street, Manchester, M4 4AF.
   - Saturday 19th May
   - 12:00 start
   - Followed by a joint event with Open Data Manchester lasting to around
   5pm.

This week we aim to finalise the post-AGM details. Work In Progress is here:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/15Ceqe8Jet65aEKxWLoYBE3IqTsdoAsUsCRoTkfH9BzA/edit#

The blocker at the moment is probably me. I am the contact with Open Data
Manchester but have been snowed under with work (overtime this weekend :-(
) so haven't had the time to finalise details with them.

As always, OSM UK tasks need not be limited to "Directors". There is
nothing special about us ;-) Help updating the event table on the wiki
would be much appreciated. Likewise any other help that you can provide
would be much appreciated.

Thank you,

*Rob*

Hi Tony

Welcome to OSM. We're working hard on getting the details of the AGM out
more widely and stuff will appear in due course and in good time(!)
Currently we've just done what's needed legally in terms of notice, content
and venue. If you're not already signed up as member to the local UK
chapter, you'll need to do so by April 18th if you want to cast a vote on
anything at the AGM.(details on how to join on the OSMUK website). That's
the only thing you won't be able to do at the AGM - vote - if you're not a
member. Look forward to meeting you in Manchester

Re: [Talk-GB] OSM AGM and notification

2018-04-14 Thread Adam Snape
Hi Tony,

Firstly, welcome to OSM. I'm an active mapper based in Preston and tend to
concentrate on mapping in the Preston and South Ribble areas (I don't
really get down as far as Chorley very often) . I'm more than happy to help
in any way I can. Feel free to drop me an email if there's anything you'd
like to discuss. Maybe if we get a couple more local mappers we can sort
out our own regular local meets :)

By the way, I do try and keep an eye on local edits by new contributors so
I did have a brief look over some of your first edits at the time. Rest
assured that all seemed fine. Keep up the good work!

Kind regards,

Adam Snape (ACS1986)

The 'upcoming events' section seems an ideal place to advertise AGMs.

(just to add a bit to what Jerry said...)

Hi Tony,

First of all, welcome!

You've probably already found the "Contact channels" page on the wiki
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Contact_channels .  OSM globally
uses lots of different mailing lists, forums, social network sites etc.
It can be a bit confusing, but Bryan Housel (the tireless main developer
of the iD editor) is planning to tie some of these loose ends together a
bit better, and the summary I gave for his benefit at
https://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/talk/2018-April/080447.html
for GB might also be useful.

Slightly further afield than Manchester, there are regular meetups in
the East and West Midlands, which might be doable from Chorley (I'm in
the East Midlands and have worked occasionally just west of Chorley,
though I've never tried a late-night train journey...).

With regard to the Manchester OSM UK meeting, I'm sure when the OSM UK
folks are ready with an official annoucement at https://osmuk.org/ it'll
get featured in the regular "weekly" - country-level meetups often do.
Anyone can submit news for that by the way - have a look at
http://www.weeklyosm.eu/this-news-should-be-in-weeklyosm for details.

Best Regards,

Andy

2018-04-14 Thread SK53
Hi Tony,

The weekly OSM newsletter is global so I'm not sure that it would make a
specific feature of an AGM in a single country.

The list of events is derived from the one on the main page on the wiki, so
if someone adds it there (hint to members of the OSM-UK board) then it
should show up.
